Scholarship Dollars Committed at the HBCU/HSI College Fair

Seniors were awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships to launch their collegiate careers at the premier SLPS HBCU/HIS College Fair, and others were bought together with collegiate advisors who shed light on academic programs and information that will serve to brighten futures and spark dreams. Scheible Recognized at School Board Meeting

Leah Scheible, a rising junior at Fort Pierce Central High School, was recognized at the August SLPS Board Meeting because she made a big splash at this year’s Special Olympics 2018 USA Games held in Seattle, Washington.   As one of Florida’s 7-member swim team delegation, Leah took twin silvers in her individual 200 freestyle event and 4X50 freestyle relay, and she scooped a fourth-place finish in her individual 100 freestyle event.   Leah’s swim coach, Heather Gray, who accompanied Leah to the Board meeting, describes her as an outstanding athlete.   Leah participates in swim, track, basketball and cheerleading … Read More

Scaled Spaghetti Structures at CAST

Ms. Claudio’s seventh graders at CAST examined different styles of architecture and discussed the pros and cons and how math is used in architecture. Students then designed and built their own structure to scale using spaghetti noodles, marshmallows and tape. Their goal was to build the tallest structure that best resembled their scale drawing.

Save the Water Contest Winners Announced

Below are the winners of the 2018 Drop Savers Water Conservation Poster Contest. Students demonstrated amazing talent and challenged the judges to select from a wide array of creative entries.   Each student was presented with a prize for being selected as a local contest winner. Five of the student entries (noted with an asterisk) have been submitted to the state competition.  Locally, student winners are recognized in each participating grade, but the state recognizes winners in the following divisions: kindergarten/1st grade; 2nd/3rd grade; 4th/5th grade; middle school; high school. Save The Chimps Visits Gaines Academy

Save The Chimps is a chimpanzee sanctuary located in Fort Pierce, Florida. At Save the Chimps there was need for enrichment activities to keep the chimps stimulated. In Ms. Schutt’s 21st CLCC class students piloted the Save The Chimps to learn about the chimpanzees. “Save the Chimps” project was offered to 3rd and 4th grade students at Samuel Gaines Academy in order to improve math, reading, writing and science skills. The after school program consists of project based learning incorporating academics and extracurricular/ personal enrichment activities. Students created chimpanatas as enrichment activities to help the chimps celebrate “Chimpo De Mayo.”

Save a Watt – Save a Lot at Weatherbee!

Many thanks to science teacher Ms. Donovan for arranging and scheduling the entertaining FPL program for Weatherbee’s second and third graders. Students had a great time learning ways to conserve energy!
