Seven talented 5th grade students from Morningside Elementary were proudly selected to participate in this year’s district All County Chorus event, themed “A Brighter World.” Representing the Blue Jays with pride, these young voices joined fellow choristers from across the county to create a captivating performance that inspired hope and unity. On a bright and engaging day, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Drone Team made a special visit to our school to demonstrate the innovative use of drones in modern policing. This event was a part of our ongoing unit on Careers in Criminal Justice, aimed at providing students with a comprehensive understanding of various roles within the field. St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office detectives spoke to parents at Floresta Elementary School recently about internet safety. Risky internet decisions while utilizing social media include socializing, downloading, posting photos, music, and games were discussed. Parents were made aware of the dangers of unknown friending, posting personal information, embarrassing or harassing people, sending provocative images, sharing passwords, or clicking on pop-ups. Attendees were shown a presentation and videos focusing on internet safety. SLPS opened 12 schools to serve as shelters in St. Lucie County during the devastating rains and winds that swept through the area. Through it all, shelter residents were safe, well fed, and cared for by staff who were driven to put service before self. Thank you for all you do for your community!
St. Lucie Public Schools is proud to announce our 2014-2015 US Presidential Scholar, Ms. Shelby Durden. Shelby is a senior at Fort Pierce Westwood High School. Each year, we recognize a senior that has displayed leadership and character, been involved in community service and reached high levels of academic achievement while overcoming obstacles. As a young child of 18 months, Shelby was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. She has been through periods of remission and also painful periods requiring hospital homebound services. SLWK8 Sharks were elated to explore their boundless curiosity. Ms. Paries’ third graders transformed into expert detectives on a mission to find relevant details that supported the central idea. Each page, a potential clue! The room buzzed with focused energy and collaboration as they hunted for textual evidence with colorful highlighters. Snippets of sentences, eye-catching images, and intriguing captions – all meticulously examined. While working together, students were able to compare findings and discuss text evidence. Students at St. Lucie West K-8 School in Mrs. Binns, Mrs. Dahms, and Mrs. Morales’ 4th and 5th-grade classes did an experiment during Science Resource with Mrs. Ramonas entitled “Diving Dolphin” in which they learned all about myoglobin stored in our muscles. After processing the information, they made connections to their learning of whales, seals, and dolphins. The Scientific Method was used and the comparison of data was shared between groups. On March 3rd, St. Lucie West K-8 School’s Drama Department, led by teachers Shannon Case and Lindsey Harris, kicked off our first annual Sharks’ Got Talent show! Students from all grades shared their amazing talents with a packed crowd of parents, friends, and the community. St. Lucie West K-8 students in Mrs. Ballenger’s 4th and 5th grade class created an “I Am…” board to help express self-awareness during their Social Emotional Learning (SEL) time. Each day they choose a word to help describe themselves, place it under their picture, and then share with their classmates and teachers. JAWSOME JOB SHARKS!
SLWK8 students in Ms. Boham’s STEM class explored careers in construction by building houses, adding lighting, and 1-point perspective drafting of an interior room. They started by designing a floor plan. They had to find a sq. ft cost for the state they would like to build in. They followed a template to make precise cuts, making walls and roof pieces to assemble their standing structure. Students then added paint and lighting to their 1-point perspective drawing to finish the house. We have many talented builders, designers, and drafters!

Palm Pointe historians stepped into the role of entrepreneurs during an engaging Shark Tank-style project focused on the Industrial Revolution. Students researched key inventions from the era and pitched their ideas to their classmates, highlighting the problems each invention solved and its impact on society. This interactive simulation challenged students to apply historical knowledge while strengthening persuasive speaking and critical thinking skills. By blending content mastery with creativity and presentation, the project brought history to life in a meaningful and memorable way. St. Lucie West K8 third-graders were pumped for the Super Bowl! Mrs. D’Andrea and Mrs. Schettini’s third-grade AMP Math classes had a Super Bowl-themed Fraction Review Day. Students teamed up to go head-to-head in various fraction-based activities. They rotated around the room to compete individually and to work in teams. Not only were students cooperatively learning to solve real-world math problems, but they were able to show their team spirit as well! Our proud principal, Mr. Lezeau even joined in on the fun! Students are heading towards success by making learning fun and full of Shark Nation spirit!

Shark Nation was full of energy and excitement during our PBIS Pep Rally! Each grade level showed their pride by wearing their designated colors and bringing incredible school spirit to the event. Our talented cheerleaders kicked things off with an outstanding performance that had the crowd fired up! A special shoutout to our amazing middle school teachers who joined in on the fun by participating in a spirited relay race, adding even more excitement to the day. It was a fantastic celebration of positivity, teamwork, and school pride—thank you to everyone who made this event such a huge success!
