Florida Department of Education and Volunteer Florida Encourage Students and Educators to Participate in 2024 Black History Month Contests About the Student Art Contest The Black History Month Student Art Contest is open to all Kindergarten through third-grade students in Florida. Each student will submit original, two-dimensional artwork based on this year’s theme. SLPS Celebrates a 25 Percent Gain in FCAT Performance Points

The Florida Department of Education (DOE) released the School Performance Grades for Elementary, K-8 and Middle Schools today. Taking pride in educating every student every day, St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) is celebrating a 25 percent gain in the number of schools that improved one letter grade or more (Floresta Elementary and Fort Pierce Magnet School of the Arts improved two letter grades) and 72 percent maintained or increased their school grades. SLPS Career Fair

The South County Career Fair was held on February 27th at the MIDFLorida Event Center.  Approximately 400 juniors and seniors from Mosaic Digital Academy, Port St. Lucie High, SLW Centennial, and Treasure Coast High were in attendance.  Students were able to meet and chat with company representatives, ask questions about their company and careers, interview, and possibly land internships.  The goal was to expose students to the companies and businesses in St. Lucie County, provide them with the opportunity to learn and explore specific industries, gain the confidence needed to approach adults and start conversations, interview, and practice soft skills.  The … Read More

SLPS Career and Technical Education and Economic Development Council Host Counselor’s Virtual Healthcare Session

St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) partnered with the Economic Development Council (EDC) as an initiative to continue our goals of communicating employment, post-secondary, and scholarship opportunities for our graduating students in St. Lucie Public Schools.  This virtual session featured Mr. Wayne Gent (SLPS Superintendent), Mr. Pete Tesch (EDC President), CareerSource Research Coast, Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital (Martin Health), Indian River State College, Keiser University, Lawnwood Medical Center & Heart Institute (HCA), and St. Lucie Medical Center (HCA).  The participants included SLPS counselors, graduation coaches, and medical educators.    

SLPS Breaks Ground on New Fort Pierce Westwood Academy High School

On Friday, January 19, St. Lucie Public Schools Superintendent, School Board Members, and special guests broke ground on the site of the new Fort Pierce Westwood Academy High School.   Superintendent Dr. Jon R. SLPS Board Chair Honored at Luncheon

St. Lucie Public Schools Board Chair Kathryn Hensley was honored at a recent St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce Luncheon for her steadfast advocacy for children and tireless commitment to harnessing energy and making a positive difference in this community. In addition to serving as the School Board Chair, Mrs. Hensley is also actively involved in HANDS of St. Lucie County and Children’s Services Council among many other groups and organizations. Thank you for being a true Children’s Champion!

SLPS was on display at the St. Lucie County Fair! Schools created their own exhibits with the theme of “Dream Makers: Arts, Academics & Athletics”, which were then judged. Congratulations to all the winners! Thank you to all schools who participated, the St. Lucie County Fair, and sponsors!  

SLPS at Safety Fest

This year’s event will continue to feature live demonstrations, Touch-A-Truck, giveaways, static displays, plenty of safety information, free kids zones, bounce houses and face painting. SLPS Appreciates Volunteers

A reception honoring volunteers throughout St. Lucie Public Schools has hosted by Martha Underwood, Volunteer Coordinator.  At the Board Meeting following this reception, Outstanding Volunteers of the Year for School Year 2015-16 were announced. The winner in the adult category was Mr. Samuel Rodriguez from Weatherbee Elementary. The senior category winner was Ms. Carolyn Christ from Windmill Point Elementary. The youth category winner was Jenna Pont from St. Lucie West K-8 School. We appreciate that wonderful partnership of our school volunteers!

SLPS Announces Recipients of Social Studies Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to the three recipients of the Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award! Elementary School: Diane Eibl, Morningside Elementary Middle School: Wendy Portillo, Allapattah Flats K8 High School: Luca Bradley, Ft. Pierce Central High School Teachers were nominated by their school administrators and will be recognized by The Florida Council for the Social Studies at their annual conference on October 19th.
