SLPS Superintendent Gent Visits Northport K-8

It was a pleasure for SLPS Superintendent E. SLPS Summer Hours

Starting Monday, June 10, 2019, St. Lucie Public Schools moves to a Monday through Thursday work week. Access to District/Annex Offices and school sites will be 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM unless otherwise posted. Walk-in customer hours for the Human Resources Department, located at 501 NW University Blvd. in Port St. Lucie, are from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM Monday through Thursday. For your convenience, a Human Resources directory is included below: Regular hours will resume the week of August 5, 2019.

SLPS Student Recieves FPRA Youth of the Year Award

Molly Grow, a 7th grader at the Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie (CAST), was honored by the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) Treasure Coast Chapter as their “Youth of the Year.” Molly is the chapter’s only student member and has been involved in many community projects and has even led her own fundraising event. Her contributions were recognized at the FPRA Annual Board Installation and Award Luncheon on September 21 at Indian River State College. SLPS Students Race to Greatness at the St. Lucie County Fair

SLPS was on display at the St. Lucie County Fair! Schools created their own exhibits with the theme of “Race to Greatness”. The exhibits were judged and cash prizes will be awarded to the winning schools. Congratulations to all! SLPS & St. Lucie Public Library Art Project

On Friday, April 19th, students from St. Lucie West Centennial High School, St. Lucie West K-8, Northport K-8, Westgate K-8, and Rivers Edge Elementary came to the district office to participate in the creation of a permanent art installation on the new Port St. Lucie Library. The students worked with the artist Justin Shea to create Henri Matisse-inspired cut-outs which will be turned into mosaic tiles on the exterior of the new library.

SLPS Schools Receive Kits to Improve Needs of Students with Language Impairment

This year the Exceptional Student Education, Student Services, and Office of Teaching and Learning Departments collaborated and identified needs for students with language weaknesses. Materials were purchased through the IDEA American Recovery Funds grant to help improve language skills for students with disabilities who are identified with a Language Impairment. Each school received two kits each so that the speech-language pathologists and interventionists can work to improve the needs of students with disabilities who demonstrate a weakness in language which will, in turn, improve their listening, speaking, and reading comprehension skills. St. Lucie Public Schools is proud to have served the community by providing eight general hurricane shelter sites and four Red Cross shelter sites. SLPS Receives Highest Rating In Meeting Requirements of the IDEA

SLPS Presents At The Full Sail University Teacher Webinar

Recently Jane Whitaker, Magnet School Coordinator and Laurie Boyer, Magnet School Outreach and Recruitment Specialist, had the opportunity to present a webinar, Getting Started with Esports in partnership with Full Sail University at the Teacher Outreach Webinar.  The session focused their work on getting the Esports Program at Ft. Pierce Westwood Academy up and running. The webinar was a global platform and they had the opportunity to share their journey with educators from Virginia, North Carolina, Canada and India. SLPS Participates in Project ELITE

St. Lucie Public Schools Pre-K – 3rd-grade teachers, paraprofessionals, and staff participated in the University of Central Florida’s Project ELITE – English Learner Infused Training and Experience. Project ELITE  prepares teachers, paraprofessionals, and educational leaders to implement evidence-based English learner instructional strategies and parent, family, and community engagement strategies.

SLPS Organizational Meeting

The School Board of St. Lucie County held an Organizational Meeting on November 22, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. in the School Board Room. During this meeting, Mr. Troy Ingersoll was elected Chairman and Dr. Donna Mills was elected Vice Chairman.
