Certified Legal Assistant students were invited to attend a Civil Discourse Session at the federal courthouse in Fort Pierce. Students learned about civil discourse and interacted with local attorneys, court staff, and a circuit judge. They also learned about different careers in the legal field and different areas of the law they could practice in. Students were given an opportunity to ask questions. Finally, students were given roles to participate in a mock trial. On March 3rd and 4th, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Drone Training Squad visited Criminal Justice classes at SLW Centennial High School as part of the unit on Careers in Criminal Justice. Students learned about the use of drones in aiding law enforcement and students in each class got to operate the drone cameras during flight.
On October 5th, Mr. Nichols’s Criminal Justice 3 class at Centennial had guest speakers from the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Department visit them. Sgt. Billy Morash, Sgt. Woods, and Sgt. Richardson from the Criminal Investigation Unit, spoke with students about how the division is comprised, and what it takes to be a Crime Scene Investigator. The students had a great time and were able to ask questions throughout the program. We are very thankful for the support that we receive from our local Law Enforcement Agencies.
SLW Centennial High School recently hosted a college application and career exploration day. The theme was “Empowered to Achieve, Prepared to Soar”. It was a fantastic day dedicated to college applications and career exploration, specifically designed to support our seniors. Counselors were available throughout the day to meet with students, guiding them through the intricacies of college applications and addressing any questions about various career paths. Additionally, we had representatives from the armed forces and Indian River State College (IRSC) on hand to provide valuable insights and information about opportunities in their respective fields. The Centennial Women’s Chorus attended State Competition on April 21, 2015 at the American Heritage School, in Plantation, Florida. The ladies did an amazing job receiving one Superior rating and two Excellent ratings. The Women’s Chorus has students ranging from the 10th grade through 12th grade who have been in Chorus for at least two years. We are so proud of all of the Chorus’ achievements this year.
The SLW Centennial High School choir and piano department delivered a spectacular performance at their recent spring concert, under the expert direction of Mr. Jeremy Totten, the school’s dedicated choir and piano director. The event was a celebration of musical talent. It featured a mix of group performances, duets, and solos that captivated the audience from start to finish. On a recent visit to Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and Florida International University (FIU), basketball players from SLW Centennial had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of Division 1 (D1) basketball.
