ST. LUCIE COUNTY: St. Lucie Public Schools Superintendent E. Wayne Gent announced that Kim Jay, a recognized literacy leader in the school district, will serve as Allapattah Flats’ new principal, and Eldrique Gardner will bring his expertise in educational leadership to the campus of St. Lucie West K-8 as its new principal. Gent expressed, “Mrs. Jay and Mr. Gardner have a strong commitment to student achievement and deep knowledge of positive instructional practices that will support the continued positive growth at these school sites. I have high expectations for them and for the schools’ success.”
Jay’s appointment was approved by the Board on July 28, 2015, and she will immediately step into her new role. This 17-year veteran educator in St. Lucie County has varied experiences that will contribute to her successful leadership of the school which serves pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students. She began her career in education as a classroom instructor, supported quality instruction as a reading coach, led summer school programs for multiple years, and most recently supported student achievement as an assistant principal. “I am very excited to begin my new journey with the students, staff, and parents of Allapattah Flats. The quality of the educational team and the positive culture there are ingredients for a very successful year,” said Jay.
Gardner, a proud graduate of St. Lucie Public Schools, received his recommendation from the Board on July 21, 2015. He has served the District for twelve years as an engaging classroom teacher, as a specialist in talent development, and as a leader in the capacity of assistant principal. Gardner said, “I am humbled by this opportunity to continue my leadership at St. Lucie West K – 8. It is a great school with a legacy of fine leadership and outstanding student achievement.”
