Morningside Elementary’s Everglades Ambassadors took some time out of their spring break to meet up in the Everglades! Ranger Colby led them on a wet walk through a cypress dome habitat where they got muddy and saw an alligator in its hole. Can you imagine if they had visited in the wet season?!?! After a picnic lunch, Ranger Trent led them through a rock pineland habitat and a hardwood hammock habitat where they learned about why these habitats are in danger. Then, after a snack break, he led them through a sawgrass prairie where they conducted experiments with the Everglades water, and saw 4 more alligators, turtles & birds! They ended the day being sworn in as Everglades Junior Rangers and received their badges. They loved the Everglades before, but now they are even more dedicated to helping conserve it!
