Manatee Academy’s Jermeka Nixon TotW Winner May 18-23

TCPalm’s ‘Teacher of the Week’ for May 18- 23 went to Manatee K-8’s very own Jermeka Nixon. She’s known around Manatee as an incredible teacher, mentor, and all-around positive force on campus. Her colleagues describe her as an “absolutely incredible teacher and mentor,” someone who brings a wealth of enriching ideas and strategies to meet the needs of students across all achievement levels. Whether she’s easing student anxieties or offering a compassionate listening ear, Ms. Nixon’s presence is a source of comfort and encouragement. Her classroom is a space where every student feels seen, heard, and capable, thanks to her patient guidance and intentional support.

Beyond the classroom, Ms. Nixon plays a critical leadership role within the Manatee community. She has served as a mentor for new teachers and a guiding force within the ELA department. She is a tremendous role model for students by always being a team player and showing how to not only work well with others but to build respect for each other within a team. Ms. Nixon’s dedication stretches across subject areas, always ready to lend her time to help students with everything from writing to math. She even coaches the Manatee cheer team and dedicates her time to the Manatee girls, not only in cheer and dance, but also in teaching them responsibility and accountability. Manatee K-8 is proud of Ms. Nixon and thrilled to see her commitment recognized as ‘Teacher of the Week’.
