Students in Andrea Logue’s fifth grade class at Fort Pierce Magnet School of the Arts combined science and engineering as they learned how and why scientists identify a control. In this STEM lesson they generated hypotheses and tested them by filtering pond water through filters they designed and built in teams. Following three trials with their filter, the students analyzed and compared results with other teams of scientists.
