Fort Pierce Central High School Hosted FCDI Regional Tournament

Cobras Celebrate 12 State Qualifiers

In November, Fort Pierce Central High School proudly hosted its first-ever Florida Civics and Debate Initiative (FCDI) regional tournament on campus—a milestone event for our school and community. The tournament brought together talented student debaters from across the region, and FPC rose to the occasion with an impressive showing.

A total of 28 Cobra competitors participated in a variety of events, showcasing their skills in argumentation, critical thinking, and public speaking. Their hard work and preparation paid off in a big way. By the end of the tournament, FPC earned 12 new state qualifiers, marking a significant achievement for our debate program.

The following students will advance to the state level in their respective categories:

  • Amy Alfonso – Legislative Debate
  • Alia Buchanan – Lincoln Douglas Debate
  • Weslyn Johnson – Legislative Debate
  • Victoria Sabarre – Impromptu Speaking
  • Nicole Lin – Original Oratory
  • Kendrick Braynen – Impromptu Speaking
  • Aiden Hong & Samuel Mazuera – Public Forum Debate
  • Camila Salcedo Lind & Jesus Rivera Nieves – Public Forum Debate
  • Anyely Roque Perera – Lincoln Douglas Debate
  • Carina Weisfeld – Extemporaneous Debate

This accomplishment reflects not only the dedication of our students but also the guidance and support of our coaches and staff. FPC was excited to have nearly a dozen faculty judges participate in the process! Hosting the tournament for the first time was a tremendous honor, and the success of our competitors made the experience even more memorable. Thank you to NHS members for volunteering to make this event successful.

Congratulations to all participants and best of luck to our qualifiers as they prepare for the state championship! Go Cobras!

Congrats to Coach and Sponsor Mrs. Wright and pictured below are new judges Mrs. O’Quinn and Mrs. Avra.
