Palm Pointe’s 8th-grade history students became colonial spies as they “intercepted” secret British missives to investigate the growing tensions between Great Britain and the American colonies. Working in teams, students analyzed messages related to key taxation policies, including the Sugar Act, Stamp Act, and Townshend Acts. As they decoded information and examined British actions, students evaluated how these laws affected colonists and contributed to unrest in colonial America. The engaging, hands-on lesson encouraged collaboration, critical thinking, and historical analysis while helping students make meaningful connections to the events that ultimately led to the American Revolution and the birth of a new nation.
