As a follow-up to the Junior & Senior Career Fair held in April, St. Lucie Public Schools Junior & Senior high school students recently participated in a May hiring event at the voco Sandpiper All‑Inclusive Resort in Port St. Lucie. The event provided students with hands-on exposure to hospitality careers while allowing them to utilize professional skills in an authentic workplace setting.
Resort leadership shared information about available employment opportunities and encouraged students to reflect on which positions best aligned with their interests and career goals.
Students then participated in a guided tour of the resort, where they met team members from various departments. These interactions included conversations with host staff, a Recreation Coordinator who is also a current high school student, and the Restaurant Manager, who shared the top qualities they look for when interviewing candidates. Students interested in culinary careers also received a behind-the-scenes kitchen tour led by the Executive Sous Chef, who discussed multiple culinary career pathways and highlighted the equipment and technology used in the resort’s operations.
The event concluded in the resort’s ballroom, where each student had the opportunity to participate in interviews with members of the resort’s leadership team. Interviewers represented a wide range of departments, including IT, Marina, Finance, Food & Beverage, Recreation, Sales and Marketing, Human Resources, and the General Manager’s office, offering students valuable insight into diverse roles within the hospitality industry.
St. Lucie Public Schools extends its appreciation to the voco Sandpiper All‑Inclusive Resort and community partners for their continued collaboration and commitment to preparing students for future careers. Events like this reinforce the district’s dedication to career readiness by connecting classroom learning with real-world opportunities. Classrooms2Careers.
