St. Lucie Public Schools’ Office of Teaching and Learning devoted June to College Visit Month. We took 34 rising seniors to the University of Central Florida, 30 rising seniors to Florida Atlantic University, 43 rising seniors to the University of Florida, and 22 rising seniors to Florida International University. The students were able to listen to the Admissions Department from each university, discuss admission steps/requirements as well as learn unique facts about each institution. The students were then led on a comprehensive tour of each universities’ campus. To wrap things up, all students were able to eat lunch on campus to get the true college experience. Field trips to postsecondary institutions can impact enrollment and degree completion as well as attitudes and behaviors toward college.
