Imagine what a school can do when collaboration becomes part of how things get done. On March 31, 2016, the Treasure Coast High School Visual and Performing Arts Department collaborated with Port St Lucie Botanical Gardens to host their annual art show. The TCHS Culinary Arts Academy provided tasty delicacies while patrons enjoyed Fine Art, Graphic Art, Photography, Theatrical Performances, and a Dance Performances. To say the least, it was sensory overload!
On Friday, April 1st, the efforts for creating awareness about Autism came in the form of “Lighting It Up Blue.” Staff members from across the District donned blue apparel in support of this campaign. On Saturday, April 2nd, approximately 2,000 St. Lucie Public Schools, community organizations, and families poured into Tradition Square to begin the Walk. Each year this event continues to grow and help bring about a greater awareness of autism. Music and celebration was in the air as middle school students from St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) brought home accolades from the recent District 13 Music Performance Assessment (MPAs). The MPAs are organized opportunities for Florida bands and choral groups to perform and receive feedback from qualified judges. The Speakers Bureau Special Guest Speakers at Ft. Pierce Westwood High School this month were Mr. Nick Mimms, Ft. Pierce City Manager, and Mr. Joseph Smith, St. Lucie Count Clerk of Courts. Mr. Mimms and Mr. Smith encouraged the students by letting them know that despite road blocks and opposition, continue to work hard and dream big. Dr. Donna Mills also spoke to the students about the importance of paying it forward.

Motion picture, computer, and video game companies also employ 3D animators and graphic designers due to increasing demand for high-quality visual effects, interactive media, and multi-player gaming solutions. Drafting is the act of composing plans that visually communicate how something functions or is to be constructed. Also known as “technical drawing,” it is essential in industry and engineering for communicating ideas using common symbols, perspectives, units of measure, and page layout. This type of drawing is extremely precise vs. the forms of expressive drawing known as “visual arts.” Individuals who choose a career in Drafting and Illustrative Design work in construction, architecture, and engineering. Ft. Pierce Westwood’s veterinary lab is a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital where students learn through hands-on experiences in veterinary medicine. After graduating, students can work immediately upon graduation as Veterinary Assistants or continue further education at the college level.
Ft. Pierce Magnet School of the Arts received many helping hands for a campus clean-up project on Friday (3/19) and Monday (3/21). Superintendent E. Wayne Gent led the volunteers along with teams from Custodial Services, Grounds, Maintenance, and District Office. Everyone rolled up their sleeves to pressure clean, paint, and landscape the historic school building and grounds.
The Microsoft IT Academy teaches students a greater mastery of Microsoft products such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. Students increase personal productivity and technical skills by earning Industry Certification as Microsoft Office Specialists (MOS). Technology skills and certification taught lead students to be college and career ready for today’s technology-centered job market.
