For Second Year in a Row Positive Agreement Is Reached With St. Lucie Public Schools and Unions…

St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) reached a positive agreement with its Classroom Teachers Association (CTA) and Classified Unit (CU) partners on Tuesday, July 12th. Superintendent E. Wayne Gent stated, “This represents a true spirit of collaboration and trust. I commend our bargaining teams and the commitment of our School Board who have worked together to reach an agreement prior to the beginning of the school year. Students Participate in Valuable Internships with St. Lucie Public Schools

Long gone are the lazy days of summer.  Students are finding more valuable ways to spend their summer days through an internship program made available through a partnership with St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) and Career Source Research Coast.  St. Lucie County has funded the program and hired over 100 community youth.  From this program, over 40 student interns – more than twice the number from last year – were welcomed into the School District’s media services, publications, technology, student assignment, nutritional services, accounting, and maintenance service departments for hands-on experiences during this eight-week opportunity. Summer School Graduation

Summer school graduates crossed the stage to receive their diplomas on Wednesday, July 13, 2016. Parents, family members, friends, and school officials were in attendance to support the students as they achieved this major milestone.  Congratulations to our graduates!

Digital Innovation Awarded to PSLHS

St. Lucie Public High Schools were offered a challenge to leverage the creativity and ingenuity of their students to create a 2-3 minute site-specific showcase video to promote the quality programs and opportunities students are afforded. LUCIE COUNTY —  Darren Frymoyer, senior area specialist within the Child Nutrition Services Department of St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS), was installed onto the America Commodity Distribution Association (ACDA) Board of Directors. He will represent all U.S. public school districts as the fellow School District Recipient Agent. SLPS Appreciates Volunteers

A reception honoring volunteers throughout St. Lucie Public Schools has hosted by Martha Underwood, Volunteer Coordinator.  At the Board Meeting following this reception, Outstanding Volunteers of the Year for School Year 2015-16 were announced. The winner in the adult category was Mr. Samuel Rodriguez from Weatherbee Elementary. The senior category winner was Ms. Carolyn Christ from Windmill Point Elementary. The youth category winner was Jenna Pont from St. Lucie West K-8 School. We appreciate that wonderful partnership of our school volunteers!  

Manatee Academy Moves to Project Citizen National Competition

SLPS is proud to announce that Manatee Academy’s team project entitled “Keep Port St. Lucie Afloat” is advancing to the Project Citizen National Competition in Los Angeles. Prior to receiving this honor, St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) had a weighted and impressive showing at the state competition which boasted a total of six middle school projects. Of these six projects that advanced to the state level, three were from SLPS. Those three were teams from Southern Oaks Middle School, West Gate K-8 (recognized as a top finisher in the local competition), and Manatee Academy.

Summer Youth Reading Challenge

Take Part in St. Lucie County’s Summer Youth Reading Challenge FORT PIERCE – The St. Lucie County Library System is excited to announce its 2016 Summer Reading Challenge: “On Your Mark, Get Set…Read!” The challenge runs Saturday, May 28 through Saturday, August 6. The library challenges every youth (grades K-5) in St. Lucie County to read at least 12 books or for 12 hours this summer.
