Students in 3rd – 5th grade have started a unit entitled What Can AI Do? They will be exploring a variety of AI technologies to establish a strong foundational knowledge about what AI is, how AI works, and how AI technologies might be used to help people. Students will be exploring several examples of AI programs to consider what tasks AI does well and which tasks AI does not do well. They will be exploring algorithms and how to use these algorithms to write a task analysis. Finally, students will design their own AI robot that uses sensors and AI capabilities to perform a complex task for people in their class, school, home, or community. Students will draw and describe their AI robot invention, and then share their creations in a class gallery.
