At Forest Grove Middle School, Mrs. Proctors’ students loved reviewing through an escape room!!! They had so much fun reviewing MA.6.NSO.3.3 in preparation for MA.6.AR.1.3. Students were able to show their skills with order of operation to solve numerical expressions while trying to escape!

At Forest Grove Middle School, Mrs. Proctors’ 6th grade math classes had an exciting day, filled with learning fun. Students were practicing ratios with Skittles! Students sorted their skittles by color, compared part to part and part to whole, and wrote the ratios three different ways! The students were ecstatic to learn about ratios in a new way!  

Why use a boring worksheet or textbook when you can have active engagement and learning with a fun roam-the-room activity, reviewing key standards? Today in Mrs. Proctor’s class we did just that, as we reviewed GCF, LCM, and GFC with the distributive property!!!  

Mrs. Proctor’s students were engaged in a “roam the room” activity. Students roamed the classroom to review solving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division expressions, which included positive and negative integers while utilizing various resources.

Mrs. Brick’s 6th grade MOA students are learning how to test the salinity of water using refractors. Students are also working with triple beam balances to determine the mass of a variety of objects.  

Mr. Parkinson’s 8th grade Geometry students utilize a variety of engaging techniques to solve problems. Students are using manipulatives to organize proofs that prove angle relationships with parallel lines.

Forest Grove Middle School’s Math Department has begun a new initiative this year. Our math teachers are creating a culture of celebration while building a positive relationship with their students. Each week teachers are nominating students for portraying Excellence in math. These students persevere through challenging equations, never give up, maintain a positive attitude, and always try their best!
