The St. Lucie West Centennial Volleyball Team volunteered their time on Saturday, September 19, to give back to the community. The team spent the morning cleaning up a local beach.
Operation Graduation Centennial hosted its very first Operation Graduation Night on August 27. Centennial Administrators, Guidance Counselors and several teachers participated in the event to provide parents and seniors with information about graduation requirements.
Centennial High School launches Project Eagle. Every Athlete Giving Leading Excelling. Project Eagle is a program designed for student athletes to represent Centennial by volunteering in the community. There will be extensive volunteer opportunities throughout the year and each student athlete is encouraged to volunteer for at least 20 hours. SLW Centennial Band performed for the grand opening of the new Race Trac that opened on Port Saint Lucie Boulevard.
On July 9, 2015, the Centennial Lady Eagles Basketball Team gave back to the community by volunteering at Sarah’s Kitchen. The team volunteers twice a year; at Thanksgiving and during the summer. Thank you Lady Eagles for your time and dedication to our community.
SLW Centennial’s Quiz Bowl Team took first place in the Quiz Bowl State Competition sponsored by Skills USA. The team will advance to Nationals. The student team members are: Yeltsin Jean-Pierre, Dallas Sidebottom, Jaeger Johnson, Aylah Poe, and Adrianna Lovalente.
The Centennial Women’s Chorus attended State Competition on April 21, 2015 at the American Heritage School, in Plantation, Florida. The ladies did an amazing job receiving one Superior rating and two Excellent ratings. The Women’s Chorus has students ranging from the 10th grade through 12th grade who have been in Chorus for at least two years. We are so proud of all of the Chorus’ achievements this year.
Y.A.L.E. is a 9th grade organization created to promote academic success, leadership, philanthropy, and fellowship amongst students in Saint Lucie West Centennial High School’s Freshman Academy. Freshmen participation in school activities and events is a vital component of maintaining school pride and culture. Y.A.L.E. provides numerous paths to involvement for students who might not already participate in athletics, band, chorus, drama and other clubs. Jaci Caine serves on the Florida Youth Commission, an advisory body to the Governor’s Florida Children and Youth Cabinet. As a member, she participated in the Children’s Week activities in Tallahassee, FL, April 10th- 14th. Congratulations Jaci on a job well done.
Anastasia Beckford received the Wellesley Book Award honoring a female student in the junior class whose academic record and character are exceptional and who has also made significant personal contributions to her school and community.
St. Lucie West Centennial’s National Honor Society members visited the Elliott Museum in Stuart. Through a guided tour, the students were exposed to the museum’s collections and exhibits. The students learned about history, science and technology. It was a fun, educational and entertaining experience for all.
More than 116 Health Science students at St. Lucie West Centennial High School learned Hands-Only CPR this week. These students were taught by Mary Higgins’ First Responder students. First Responder classes are available to students who have completed the Allied Health Program as a senior elective. First Responder students prepare for careers in emergency medicine by becoming CPR certified as Health Care Professionals, completing web based classroom instruction and skills in advanced first aid techniques, followed by a shadowing opportunity at various St. Lucie County Fire stations. Jaci Caine was selected to serve as youth commissioner on the Florida Youth Commission. Caine, 17, is a senior at St. Lucie West Centennial High and plans to study medicine.
Congratulations Pamela Kaiser. Mrs. Kaiser has been recognized by the College Board’s Advanced Placement Program for her contributions as an AP reader. In June 2014, 607 high school AP English Literature teachers joined forces with college faculty who teach in the same discipline to score 399,220 exams in Louisville, KY. Ms. Kaiser has been recognized for her hard work, her dedication, and her expertise. This was her fifth year participating as an AP Reader. Thank you Ms. Kaiser for your dedication to our students.
