Kindergarten Pinning celebrated at Palm Pointe

Kindergarten students are seen with their teachers Patricia Ifill-Bowen, left, and Kristy Henderson at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition as they perform a few songs for parents during their recent Kindergarten Pinning Ceremony. This celebration was to recognize the kindergarten students and celebrate all that they had learned in their first year at Palm Pointe. Now, they are soon to be first graders and enjoyed celebrating with their families on this special occasion.

Star Bright therapy dogs help students improve reading skills

Alex Cardenal from Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition, along with his classmates, hugs one of the dogs from the Star Bright Therapy reading program. To the left of Alex is one of the volunteers from the program,  behind him is behavior technician Neil Siriani, and to his right is teacher Tammy Miller. Volunteers come with the dogs to Palm Pointe once a week for 45 minutes to read with the students. This helps students improve their reading skills. Sunshine State Readers celebrate at Palm Pointe

Eighth grade students at Palm Pointe launch rockets

Eighth grade students from Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition, pictured from left, John Rimes, Michael Williams and Michael Lyons prepare to launch their rockets that they made as projects for Thomas Carr’s science class. This project incorporated both math skills and science. The students had fun learning how to make the rockets and then watch as they launched their finished projects. 

Palm Pointe fourth highest in the state for American Heart Association

Palm Pointe Educatioinal Research School at Tradition has learned the school has the fourth highest combined fund raising total in the sstate for schools hosting both a Jump Rope for Heart event and a Hoops for Heart event. The school has raised approximately $14,000 over the past two years for the American Heart Association through the school’s two events as was highlighted in the most recent issue of the Florida Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Dance and sport journal.Robert Santoro, Kristen Stafford, and Dale Francis, Physical Education teachers at the school, coordinate the events. Kindergarten students in Raynell Mowitt’s class at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition enjoy a Mother’s Day Tea with their moms. Each student videotaped a special message to their mom on why they are so special to them. Everyone enjoyed refreshments and spending time together.

Author of Sunshine State book visits Palm Pointe

Kate Klise, author of “Dying To Meet You,” one of this year’s Sunshine State books, visited Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently to discuss her books and give tips to our future authors.  Ms. Klise also gave a non-fiction writing workshop for selected sixth graders. This year’s third through fifth grade students who read at least three of the 15 Sunshine State books from their list were able to vote for their favorite and “Dying to Meet You” received the most votes at Palm Pointe. Palm Pointe students vote for favorite Sunshine State Book

Palm Pointe first graders explore St. Lucie lagoon with the Manatee Center

Students in Desiree Miller’s first grade class at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition explored the St. Lucie lagoon with the Manatee Center.  The students captured many different fish and other sea animals in the estuary using nets.  After collecting the different things they found, the students sorted them before releasing them back into the river.  It was a great learning experience and a fun day for all!  Pictured are students, from left, Sabrina Fontanez, Jasmine Chuong, Kiera Murray and a staff member from the Manatee Center helping them.

Palm Pointe thanks bus drivers during FCAT week

Palm Pointe Educational Research School at Tradition Dean Christopher Pierre passes out snacks to the bus drivers that service the school during FCAT week.  These drivers do a great job of getting students to school safe and on time everyday and especially during testing.  Thank you to all drivers.

Team from Palm Pointe walks in Relay for Life

The team from Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition participated in the Relay for Life held at Digital Domain Park recently.  Students and staff proudly walked to support those affected in some way by cancer.  Many fundraisers were done at school to support the American Cancer Society.  Thank you to all those who helped support this great cause, it was truly appreciated!  

Palm Pointe team wins regional stock market challenge

A team of students from Hillary Cruz’s seventh grade civics class at Palm Pointe Educational Research School in Tradition recently won first place for the regional division of the Florida Stock Market Challenge.  This is a web-based educational tool used by thousands of students around the state each semester to help teach economics, finance, current events, math, social studies and technology. The winners will receive a $100 check for the school, a $50 gift certificate for Papa John’s Pizza, and first place certificates. Static electricity demonstrated by Palm Pointe fifth graders

Fifth grade twins Rachel and Carly Bentel at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition use balloons to demonstrate static electricity in a recent science experiment for their science club.  The club is sponsored by fifth grade teacher Michelle Powers. Students met once a week in the morning before school and did fun and educational experiments.

Technology students create “sprites” at Palm Pointe

Students in Maurizio Apostolico’s Visual Computer Modeling class at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition are hard at work creating “sprites,” images that can be used in their original game creations.  The concept was to illustrate an original game character, then pixelate the image to create a sprite.  Eventually, these sprites will become fully animated for their final project.  Pictured is seventh grader Logan Henik as he shows what he’s been creating.

Palm Pointe participates in Light It Up Blue for autism awareness

Palm Pointe families enjoy CSI Family Mystery Night

With almost 600 people in attendance, Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition’s CSI Family Mystery Night was a huge success!  Assistant principal Latricia Thompson and fifth grade teacher Michelle Powers organized the event, which encourages critical thinking and the scientific process skills.  There were many different labs set up for parents and students to test their observations, collect data and use deductive reasoning to do their investigation.  Families completed the different labs and eliminated “suspects” accused of stealing the Palm Pointe rocket.  CSI night incorporated drama and mystery in a realistic application of science investigations.  This was educational fun for … Read More
