Students selected their favorite poem and illustrated how the poem made them feel. These pictures came together into a beautiful “poet-tree”! Fourth-grade students learned about female Highwayman artist Mary Ann Carroll and collaborated to make a landscape portrait. They also listened to railroad songs from Zora Neale Hurston and dissected the lyrics to better understand this period in Florida History.

CAST Shops for the Right Price

Mrs. Proctor’s 6th-grade math class is working on ratio concepts and being able to use ratio reasoning to solve problems. The students had the opportunity to “go shopping” in the classroom and see if it was cheaper to buy in bulk or a single item by itself. Students had to use what they learned about unit rate to see what each item in the bulk pack would cost and compare it to if it was cheaper to buy the item in bulk or the single items by themselves.

CAST Hydro Dips

Middle school students in Mr. Cruz’s Visual Arts class experimented with hydro dipping. They sprayed paint into water then dipped paper to create a marble effect. The final products are ‘marble-lous’!

Students set out to build catapults! Students were able to build catapults out of any material on the table, test their inventions with catapulting a cotton ball, recording the distance the ball traveled, and answer questions about force and motion. Students were able to see how force and motion worked together to launch their cotton ball … Read More
