An exciting partnership between St Lucie Public Schools and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) offers students interested in a career in Aerospace or any Engineering discipline the opportunity to learn from the premiere aviation and aerospace university in the world.   Aerospace engineering deals with the design, construction, and study of the science behind the forces and physical properties of aircraft, rockets, and spacecraft.  The field also covers aerodynamic characteristics and behaviors, airfoil, lift, drag, and other engineering-related concepts. The accounting field is very diverse.  Bookkeepers and accountants work in a variety of industries including fashion, law, government, entertainment, sports, telecommunications, and marketing.  Students learn about manual and computerized accounting systems.  After graduating, students are ready to work in record keeping or go on to advanced training at the college level. Engineering is the creative application of scientific and mathematical principles to design, build, and maintain structure, machines, devices, systems, materials and processes.  The discipline of engineering is extremely broad including aeronautical, civil, electrical, industrial, and mechanical.  Engineering Technology studies incorporates foundational concepts that apply to all of these areas. Culinary Arts means “the art of cooking.” Culinary Arts is much more than simply cooking to those involved in the industry. Those working on an education in Culinary Arts can become chefs at small establishments or large, fine-dining restaurants. If you’re comfortable in the kitchen and enjoy the art of cooking, a career in culinary arts could be right for you. Technological and economic factors have changed the way people around the world perceive the importance of agriculture.  Agritechnology is the teaching of agricultural sciences, natural resources, land management, and the 21st Century tools and technologies used in the field.  The curriculum includes horticulture, livestock management, agricultural science, and more.   It is taught through hands-on experiences that prepare students for both entry-level jobs and/or higher-level education. The field of Early Childhood Education includes teachers, teacher assistants, administrators, and others who assist young children in education and development. Specific responsibilities vary based on the job and the age of the children.  Hands-on learning allows students to explore this career field and work with young children in educational facilities. Digital media production is the study of media creation and display through media outlets such as the Internet. This includes audio and video streaming and hybrids of the two. The Microsoft IT Academy teaches students a greater mastery of Microsoft products such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. Students increase personal productivity and technical skills by earning Industry Certification as Microsoft Office Specialists (MOS). Technology skills and certification taught lead students to be college and career ready for today’s technology-centered job market. A Proclamation read by Christine Hill designated the month of March, 2016 as Music In Our Schools Month, and Dr. Kevin Perry recognized students and teachers for their musical accomplishments.

The St. Lucie County Education Foundation and The Aaron Project (honoring the memory of Aaron Beauchamp) presented two grants to schools from the Aaron Project Arts in Education grant program. Thom Jones, Education Foundation Executive Director, introduced Vicki Rodriguez, board member of the Aaron Project, to present the grants.

Tad Fisher of the Florida Tobacco Cessation Alliance presented St. Lucie Public Schools with the Silver Level Recognition for the Worksite Wellness Award for Comprehensive Tobacco Cessation Benefits. Stacy Jacobson, Wellness Manager and champion for healthy choices, submitted the application on behalf of SLPS. The award is based upon the Public Health Services Clinical Practice Guidelines for Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence to effect cessation treatments.
