Winter Break Schedule

St. Lucie Public Schools wishes everyone a happy holiday season and a bright new year. We remind you that Friday, December 21st is an early release day for students. Winter Break begins on Monday, December 24th. 12 Month employees return on Wednesday, January 2nd. Monday, January 7th is a Workday for faculty and staff. Students and staff will resume a regular schedule on Tuesday, January 8th. Donations Pour In For Students From Elks Lodge #1520

Over 600 St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) students received food, clothing, and supplies from generous members of the Elks Lodge #1520 in Fort Pierce.  The December 12th delivery schedule started out promising to serve 3 schools, but as donations poured in, the number of schools quickly grew to 13. Student Hero

Fifth grader Brandon Roth from Mariposa Elementary School was recognized during the December Board meeting for his courageous actions during a life-threatening situation. This summer, Brandon was riding his skateboard when he discovered a neighbor in distress lying in her doorway. He ran to her aid and flagged down a passing car to call 911. He continued to wait with her until the rescue trucks and firefighters arrived. His quick thinking and immediate action averted a potentially tragic outcome.  The School District  celebrates his quick and responsible thinking.    

A Wave of Excitement

Maddy Polina, a successful senior at the St. Lucie Virtual School, has unique skills and talents. Maddy manages her time between studies and training to make some significant accomplishments in a sport she loves – surfing.  Most recently, Mandy claimed the Russian Federation National Women’s Surf Championship.  She appreciates the support from her teachers, her principal, and most importantly – her dad. They provide help and encourage her so that she is able to realize her potential. St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) is proud to announce the launch of new science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) and emerging technology programs and makerspaces using LEGO Education solutions, which include curriculum and professional development, in two of the district’s new magnet schools: Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie (CAST) and Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies (SGAET). Dorothy Hall, a paraprofessional at C. A. Compensation Agreements Reached for All Employees

The School Board of St. Lucie County and all bargaining units have reached agreements regarding salary compensation for the 2018-2019 school year. Returning CTA employees will receive an $850 retention supplement.  Their retro portion of this $850 (representing 7/1/18 through current) will be distributed by 12/19/18 and should equal approximately half of the negotiated supplement amount.  The remaining negotiated supplement balance will be paid in equal installments over the remaining paychecks for 2018-2019. All CU employees will receive a $250 bonus by 12/19/18.  In addition, returning employees will receive a supplement in the amount equivalent to their step within the … Read More

Holidays Around the World

Bayshore Elementary School’s kindergarten team received a very special visit from Mrs. Mullan who teaches VPK at the school.  Mrs. Mullan participated in kindergarten’s celebration of Holidays Around the World. She shared the special story of Diwali, brought interesting artifacts, and wore a beautiful cultural dress. Diwali is the five-day festival of lights celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. The festival, which coincides with the Hindu New Year, celebrates new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. Licensed Teen Drivers Can Take “Teen Driver Challenge” To Improve Their Skills

St. Lucie County licensed teen drivers can improve their defensive driving skills  by taking the “Teen Driver Challenge” on January 24 and 26, according to Sheriff Ken  J. Mascara. “The number one killer of American teenagers is car crashes,” said Sheriff Mascara. “That is why the Sheriffs of Florida developed the Teen Driver Challenge Program.” The course will take place Thursday, January 24 with a classroom session 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, located at 4700 West Midway Rd.
