Annabelle Albritton Named Top Four Finalist in Florida FFA Market Steer Proficiency
Annabelle Albritton earned statewide recognition as a Top Four Finalist in the Florida FFA Market Steer Proficiency Award at the 2026 Florida FFA State Convention. Her accomplishment highlights years of dedication, detailed recordkeeping, and a passion for the beef cattle industry through her project steer, “Ice Baby.”
Annabelle purchased Ice Baby in March 2025 and immediately began the hard work required to develop a successful market steer project. Throughout the project, she maintained thorough and accurate records documenting feed costs, health treatments, daily care, expenses, and income earned. These records played a key role in demonstrating the success of her supervised agricultural experience (SAE) and helped earn her recognition at the state level.
Her commitment to excellence paid off at the 2026 St. Lucie County Fair, where Ice Baby was named the Reserve Grand Champion Market Steer. The award reflected not only the quality of the animal but also the countless hours Annabelle invested in proper nutrition, conditioning, and daily care.
Caring for a market steer requires dedication every day, and Annabelle routinely spent two to three hours each day working with Ice Baby. Her daily responsibilities included feeding, grooming, exercising, monitoring health, and preparing the steer for competition. Through these experiences, she developed valuable skills in animal husbandry, recordkeeping, time management, and financial responsibility.
In addition to competing locally, Annabelle expanded her knowledge and experience by exhibiting cattle at shows throughout Florida and even traveling to Georgia for competitions. These opportunities allowed her to improve her showmanship skills, learn from other exhibitors, and gain a broader understanding of the beef cattle industry.
Being named a Top Four Finalist in Florida for Market Steer Proficiency is a significant achievement and reflects Annabelle’s hard work, determination, and commitment to agricultural education. Her success serves as an inspiration to other FFA members interested in livestock projects and demonstrates how dedication, accurate recordkeeping, and a strong work ethic can lead to success both in and out of the show ring.
