Students in Mrs. Apostolico’s 3rd grade classes at Palm Pointe became young scientists as they explored weathering and erosion through a hands-on investigation. Using cookies to represent rocks, students tested how natural elements can break down and move earth materials over time. They used straws to model wind, toothpicks to represent animals, and ice cubes to simulate the effects of snow and ice. Before each test, students made predictions and then observed the results to see if their thinking matched the outcome. The engaging activity brought science to life while helping students distinguish between weathering and erosion in a fun, memorable, and interactive way.
