Lawnwood Elementary Surprises Faculty and Staff for Hispanic Heritage

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, teachers and staff were surprised with sweet treats at Lawnwood!
Conchas, Jamaica y Limonada: ¡Qué Rico!
Conchas & Coolers: Sweet Bread, Bright Sips
We hope our staff enjoyed their sweet surprise as LWN celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month.
A huge thank you goes out to Ms. Magana for making the drinks and reaching out to a local bakery, Panaderia La Perla, to provide the conchas.
Conchas are a traditional Mexican sweet bread or pan dulce. Each one is a soft, round, slightly sweet roll with a crunchy sugar topping scored in a pattern that looks like a seashell.
Name: Concha is Spanish for “shell,” after the shell pattern on top.
Topping: A cookie-like paste of flour, sugar and butter or shortening. It’s often flavored with vanilla or chocolate and sometimes tinted pink or other colors.
How people eat them: Usually at breakfast or as a snack with coffee or hot chocolate. You’ll find them in Mexican and Latin American bakeries.
