Southport Middle School conducted its annual CPR class for every student, providing hands-on opportunities to learn basic lifesaving procedures. During elective classes, teachers guided students through what to do in an emergency, including the steps for performing CPR, how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and how to assist someone experiencing a seizure or choking.
Students also practiced CPR on training mannequins, giving them an opportunity to apply the procedures introduced during instruction. This hands-on experience connected classroom learning with the actions students may need to take in a real emergency.
By providing this instruction to every student, Southport Middle emphasized the importance of emergency preparedness and helping others. The annual class gave students an opportunity to build familiarity with lifesaving procedures and practice skills that could make a difference when someone needs help.
