Parent Academy series opens with a hands-on technology night for Eagle families.
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla., September 22, 2026 — St. Lucie West Centennial High School welcomed parents and guardians to campus Tuesday evening for the first Title I Parent Night of the 2026-2027 school year, opening the school’s Parent Academy series with a practical look at the technology that keeps families connected to their students and to the school.
The evening centered on the platforms that link home and school. Staff walked families through the tools Centennial uses to share information and showed parents how to monitor their child’s academic progress, attendance, and behavior in one place. Parents who had not yet set up access completed the registration process for their own Skyward parent accounts before leaving.
The night also included a hands-on session with the Microsoft Office suite, where parents worked firsthand in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams, the same applications their students use for coursework and classroom collaboration. Light refreshments were served throughout the evening.
“I learned something new tonight,” one parent said.
“Our goal was for families to leave with something they could use the very next morning, and they did,” said Melissa Phillips-Hill, Assistant Principal at St. Lucie West Centennial High School. “That is a strong start to our Parent Academy series.”
The event was a partnership with Rebecca Benton, Parent Educator with the St. Lucie Public Schools Office of Student Services. Centennial’s Eagle Family supported the evening as well, with teachers and support staff volunteering to set up, greet families, translate information, and assist during the sessions.
