Mrs. Pease’s 6th Grade Science students at Lincoln Park Academy recently put their scientific thinking to the test during the exciting Drops on a Penny Lab. Students applied each step of the scientific method by asking questions, conducting research, making predictions, collecting data, and analyzing results to determine how many drops of water a penny could hold before overflowing.
Through this hands-on investigation, students explored the unique properties of water, including surface tension, while practicing careful observation, accurate measurement, and data collection. They learned the importance of conducting multiple trials, recording results, and using evidence to support their conclusions.
The lab provided an engaging opportunity for students to think critically, solve problems, and collaborate with their classmates while experiencing science in action. Activities like this help students develop essential skills that extend beyond the classroom, including perseverance, communication, and analytical thinking.
