EKG Requirement for Student-Athletes

EKGs are required for first-time high school student athletes in the 2026-27 school year.  Specifically, this requirement applies to students participating in high school athletics for the first time, including incoming 9th-grade student-athletes, and students in grades 10–12 who have not previously participated in an FHSAA-sanctioned sport.

Students who have already participated in a high school sport are not required to obtain an EKG at this time; however, obtaining one is strongly recommended as a best practice for student health and safety.

SLPS is committed to supporting the health and safety of all student athletes. As part of this commitment the St. Lucie Health Department working with St Lucie Public Schools to offer the  required EKG (electrocardiogram) screenings. EKGs may be obtained through a family healthcare provider or through the St. Lucie Health Department.
