On April 30, 2026, the Welding Program went on a field trip to D&D Welding and Fabrication to witness what goes on in a Fabrication shop and get a taste of the real world. Upon arriving at D&D, all the students were given an introduction by the shop’s Safety Manager and CWI Matt Ruben. During the tour, there was one student who stood out of the whole group and continued to ask as many questions as he possibly could. Andrew Guerrero took great interest in everything that was happening at D&D. Andrew took great interest in the fabrication of all the parts that go into making up a steel building. When Andrew had any questions about the process of making all the products that come out of the shop, he would ask Matt and find out all the information that he could ask for. After the Field trip, Andrew was invited back to D&D and offered a job. In the Fabrication world, you have to be 18 years old to be able to get a job in a Fabrication shop. For Andrew, this posed an issue, but because he made such an impression, he was offered a job at only 17 years old, working part-time until his 18th birthday. Until his 18th birthday, Andrew is continuing to work on sharpening his welding skills to prepare him for his new job.

It goes to show, that you should always ask questions on any trip that you go on. The first impression you make can be the difference between you getting offered a job or having to struggle to hunt one down in the future.
