St. Lucie West Centennial High School AICE Sociology Engage in Relevant Learning

St. Lucie West Centennial students in AICE Sociology explored the Sociology of Halloween through a critical lens. Their research examined gender differences in costume choices, the historical evolution of Halloween celebrations, and how societal growth has shaped the holiday. They also analyzed the role of consumerism and the reinforcement of gender stereotypes through costume marketing and selection. This lesson engaged the students in an interdisciplinary approach that encouraged students to connect sociological theories with real-world cultural practices, fostering a deeper understanding of identity, tradition, and media influence. Their findings offer thoughtful insights into how holidays reflect and perpetuate broader social dynamics.  Eagles rising to the occasion!
