St. Lucie West Centennial High School students in the Cambridge AICE A-level Marine Science participated in “A Day in the Life of the Indian River Lagoon”. This was an experiential research program where students and environmental experts collaborated in the collection of water quality data and biological inventories along our local estuary. Students actively engaged in hands-on field techniques to measure chemical, physical, and biological parameters to determine how their local piece of the estuary fits into the larger ecosystem. Data such as temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH, and nitrate and phosphate concentrations were taken, as well as biological organism surveys. Students were able to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-life experiences. Way to go, Eagles!
