Learning About Geology at Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie

Sixth-grade science students at CAST recently brought geology to life through a creative and engaging classroom project that modeled the layers of the Earth. Led by their science teacher, Ms. Jill Albers, students used everyday materials to construct a tactile representation of Earth’s internal structure, deepening their understanding of one of science’s most fundamental concepts.
To build their models, students used a marble to represent the inner core, Play-Doh in two colors to symbolize the outer core and mantle, and wrapped the entire model in foil to depict the crust. This hands-on approach allowed students to visualize and physically explore the Earth’s layers, reinforcing key concepts such as composition, temperature, and density differences between each layer.
