Southport Middle School Holds Literacy and History Night

Southport Middle School celebrated a successful Literacy and History night on Tuesday, January 28th, 2025. The event had approximately 200 students and families in attendance. Our Language Arts and Reading teachers had various literacy stations, filled with activities for students to showcase their literacy skills in a fun and engaging way. Students and families also had the opportunity to shop at our amazing Book Fair. History Fair projects were on display for everyone to see. In addition, representatives from Texas Roadhouse handed out coupons and small items for students to enjoy. Maria Nunez from SLPS was also in attendance, providing free registration for English classes to all ESOL parents and students. Pizza, cookies, and refreshments were provided to families and DonutNV food truck was available for families to purchase yummy desserts. Our Media Specialist, Angela Mas, was honored, after many years of Book Fairs and Literacy events, she will be retiring at the end of the year. Additionally, families had the opportunity to receive incentives for attending and participating in activities thanks to our business partners, Koch Roofing, Lanaro Visuals LLC, Sapp’s Barbershop, Angel at Carlos Barbershop, and Betel Barbershop, YJ Mobile Detailing, LLC and Iglesia de Dios, Principe de Paz, which made our night even more memorable. The Literacy and History night was a great success at SPMS!
