Mosaic Digital Academy students in Mrs. Schwenger’s 4th-grade class and Mrs. Mimnaugh’s 5th-grade class worked collaboratively to investigate answers to scientific questions. Using the scientific method, students made predictions based on their hypotheses on the following topics: Hydroelectric Power; Mass, Force, and Motion; Sound Energy; Static Electricity; and Chemical Change.
Students investigated:
- How does reservoir height affect hydroelectric power production?
- How is the motion of objects of different masses affected when the same force is applied?
- How do different amounts of water affect a glass’s ability to vibrate, and the pitch produced?
- How do objects with opposite and same charges interact with one another?
- How does temperature affect the time it takes for an antacid tablet to dissolve?
After conducting their investigations, students collected and analyzed data and reported their findings. Their projects were displayed at the District Science Showcase, where 5th-grade students presented their investigations and findings.
