FPC National History Day Fair Winners

Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas

Fort Pierce Central High students competed in the annual District History Fair. Sponsor and social studies chairperson Mrs. Sharon Ortiz has been leading students in this competition for 13 years. “Every year I look forward to seeing students make deep, personal connections to the history fair topic,” shares Mrs. Ortiz.  This year is no exception. Leaving their own mark on history fits into this year’s topic “Frontiers in History: People, Places, and Ideas.”

As a part of the National History Day (NHD), a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to learning to honor and preserve the past while informing and shaping the future, four Fort Pierce Central High School students are invited to compete in Florida’s state contest in May, taking place in Tallahassee. Beyond the state competition, winners will continue to the national contest taking place in June at the University of Maryland, College Park.

As an educational organization, the “NHD reaches more than half a million students and tens of thousands of teachers each year via its international student history contest and its wide range of teacher professional development programs, curriculum tools, and other educational activities” (Nation History Day, 2023).
