On Sunday, February 6th from 1:00-3:00 pm, the 3rd Annual Kim Pearson Memorial Beach Clean-up at Pepper Park Beach took place. This is was to honor beloved Ft. Pierce Central High School Marine Biology Teacher Kimberly Pearson. As a marine science teacher, Ms. Pearson loved the ocean and was concerned about the human toll on ocean sustainability. This beach clean-up represents her passion in life, serving students and caretaking for the ocean.
Ms. Pearson’s parents have organized two scholarships for Fort Pierce Central High student seniors. The seniors who win the grant would receive $2,000 for college. The grant can be found on the Education Foundation Website list of scholarships. Over 40 FPC Key Club members attended the clean-up event along with over 70 additional students from St. Lucie County. Several former students of Ms. Pearson, now in college, came back to St. Lucie County specifically for the beach clean-up. A teacher’s legacy lives on in her students and our community. Student volunteers collected a record pile of trash from the beaches of the Treasure Coast.
