Southport Middle School National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony

Southport Middle School parents and family members gathered with students to celebrate the formal induction to National Junior Honor Society. Inductees received their membership certificate, card and pin, and recited the membership pledge, led by the current chapter President Nikolas Brooksbank and Vice President Annery Abreu. The ceremony was followed by a lovely luncheon that was enjoyed by everyone. Pictured are the 2015 inductees, graduating NJHS members, along with Guidance Counselor and NJHS Advisor Kristin Alvarez.

Fairlawn Students Going to Michigan

Fairlawn Elementary School’s Intermediate Odyssey of the Mind team has earned a spot to compete in the World Competition to take place in Lansing, Michigan in May. Odyssey of the Mind teaches students to problem-solve in a creative way. Students are encouraged to “think outside the box” in order to solve open ended long-term and spontaneous problems. Students prepare a solution to a long-term problem with given parameters to present at competition. They also must solve a short problem given on the spot, called a spontaneous. Frances K Sweet Kindergarten Flower Power

Frances K. Southport Treasure Hunters Welcome Students Back

Sixth grade students Ainsley Bent and Allysha Lillard lead the way through Southport Middle School’s Tunnel of Hope upon return from Spring Break. Students were pleasantly surprised when the entire Southport staff was there to welcome them with signs, high fives, and encouraging words.  The Treasure Hunters also included the City of Port St. Lucie Police Chief John Bolduc, as well as staff from the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, who greeted students and provided support for all Kids at Hope. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Young Park Volunteer Twice Honored at State Level

Recognizing the success and accomplishments of Justin Lee, a senior at Lincoln Park Academy For the past 5 years, Justin Lee has volunteered his free time at the Savannas preserve State Park, accumulating more than 2,000 volunteer hours! Justin is co-founder of the Junior Friends of Savannas, an elite group of teen volunteers at the park.  He has acted as Youth Volunteer Coordinator for two years.  All of Justin’s hard work paid off this month when he was awarded not one, but two state-wide awards.  The Friends of Florida State Parks honored this amazing young man with their 2014 Youth … Read More

Northport Student Wins at State Science and Engineering Fair

Northport VPK-8 School is please to announce that Northstar student Michael Gorbach has been awarded fourth place in the Junior division of the 60th Annual State Science and Engineering Fair this April in the Medicine and Health category. Forest Grove Teacher Attends Justice Teaching Institute

Civics teacher Anne Powell of Forest Grove Middle School was one of twenty-five teachers selected from throughout Florida to attend the Supreme Court of Florida’s Justice Teaching Institute March 22-26 to learn about the state courts using a case study method. Powell and other teacher participants explored the courts and the Constitution in a four and one half day program with all seven justices serving as faculty. The Florida Law Related Education Association, Inc., coordinated the program and provided instructional assistance. Awareness of Tourette Syndrome Shared at Palm Pointe

Kyle Kryak joined Colby Kuba and the entire fifth grade at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently to share his experience living with Tourette Syndrome.  Kyle shared his adventures in traveling across the United States raising awareness and promoting acceptance.  Palm Pointe recently raised $600 to contribute to finding a cure!  Some inspiring words to the students, “People are good, never give up, follow your dreams, treat everyone with respect, persevere, embrace who you are, accept others”.  Pictured from left is Colby Kuba and Kyle Kryak.

WestGate First Graders Blast off in Space Bubble

WestGate K8 1st graders studied the sun’s beneficial and harmful effects. They spent time reading in the class space bubble as well as singing a parody of a popular song explaining the sun’s effects, magnification, stars, and gravity.

Samuel Gaines Academy Science Expo

The science teachers of Samuel Gaines Academy K-8 worked collaboratively to create a Science Expo for 5th & 8th grade students. The purpose of the event was to prepare students for the FCAT Science Assessment.  Several community and district level science experts sponsored standards based curriculum stations where students interacted with activities specific to their learning needs as determined by the analysis of assessment data. Before moving to the treasure coast in 2008 the Dyer’s had a dealership in small town rural Ohio. Giving back to the community became part of the culture at their dealership.
