First grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition celebrated a PBS reward in their pod by raising 25 white rocket fuel for their whole classes’ behavior. The students chose a snow cone and dance party as their reward. The students all had a great time and saw how positive behavior in the classroom is rewarded!

Peggy Radtke’s eighth grade science classes at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently did an experiment where they constructed their own hot air balloons and then measured the amount of time that their balloons stayed in the air. Recently at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition a clinic was hosted for clarinet players in the four county area. The evening was sponsored by Music Man Instrument Company and included master classes as well as give aways. Students were able to gain experience by listening to two clinicians as well as picking up technique hints that were offered. Way to go Rockets!

During Megan Schwenger’s computer class at Samuel Gaines Academy, middle school student Julian Maso De Mayo assists kindergartner Luther Edmond in completing an eight question PBS survey. The survey asks students various questions about how they earn Colt cash and what they want to spend Colt cash on. The PBS team will then take the results of this survey to better implement the use of Colt cash at Samuel Gaines Academy.
Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently had a Beautification Day at the school. JMC Landscaping, St. Lucie County Wal-Mart Stores, Wal-Mart Distribution Center #7038 in Ft. Pierce, Palm Pointe’s Junior National Honor Society, Palm Pointe PTO and maintenance staff all participated in the school beautification project. Everyone picked up trash, pulled weeds and laid mulch. Approximately 800 bags of mulch were donated by Wal-Mart and some Junior National Honor Society members also donated mulch. The Literacy Committee at Allapattah Flats K8 School recently put together two baskets, filled with all the items needed to make a complete Thanksgiving feast. The baskets were donated to two families in need at the school. The receiving families were extremely appreciative of the generosity of all who donated. Fourth grade students at Allapattah Flats K-8 in Bethany DiTullio’s class completed reading projects for the first nine weeks. The students were given many different options to showcase their creativity and comprehension of their chosen book. Pictured are Alexis Allen with her Venn diagram comparing and contrasting Dolphin Tale’s true story events and the book’s events and Mark Wible with his cereal box book report on Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
Allapattah Flats K-8 super second graders just completed learning all about the bones in their bodies. As part of their learning experience, they listened and danced to the music of “Slim Goodbody”. Pictured are Jessica Morales and Adam Eyayem participating in the lesson. Students loved getting up and moving to the music. This lesson is sure to stick with them for a while.
Allapattah Flats fourth grade student Enrique Crespo has been selected to represent People to People, as a Student Ambassador, for England and France in the summer of 2012. This is an exciting educational opportunity designed specifically for students and led by teachers. People to People’s mission is to bridge cultural and political borders through education and exchange, making the world a better place for future generations. During the 14-day journey Enrique will learn about British government, Shakespeare’s theatre, Normandy Beach, see the architecture of the Notre Dame Cathedral and explore art at the Louvre Museum. Samuel S. Gaines Academy’s Student Council facilitated the school’s participation in the Channel 5 Food For Families Drive. Their donations went to the Southside Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, and as a school they collected 1,773 items to donate to this worthy cause. Students and staff truly showed the Thanksgiving spirit by opening their pantries and their hearts to support people in need in our community.
