St. Lucie West Centennial High School Culinary Arts students invited Northport K8 Culinary Arts 8th graders to collaborate on a Thankful for CTE (Career and Technical Education) event at Centennial High. Their plan was to work together in the Centennial High School Culinary Arts’ commercial kitchen. The instructors, Chef Chris Balachak at St. Lucie West Centennial and Chef Tiffany Tredor at Northport K8 created a plan for their culinary students to work together. Principals Mr. Rustay and Ms. Popwell supported the event which had the middle schoolers collaborating with high school mentors to create a Thanksgiving-style meal that included dishes from many cultures. Working together and connecting middle school classes to high school CTE classes was a theme throughout the day. It was their first time in a commercial kitchen for the middle schoolers.
Thankful for CTE was a successful event where students were able to show the importance and their gratitude for Career and Technical Education (CTE) in students’ lives! The attached photos highlight the importance of aesthetics and the Hospitality and Tourism aspect of the Culinary Arts program. Festive decorations, beautifully set tables, and holiday serving tables were a blaze with autumn colors. Kudos Chef Balachak, Chef Tredor, and Culinary Arts! We are truly Thankful for CTE!
