Students Turnout for the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Showcase

Students from middle and high schools across St. Lucie County competed in the CTE Showcase. The student projects were focused on entrepreneurship categories which included 3D printed and Welded Fair, Ecommerce Products & Services, New Food Truck Concept, and the middle school entrepreneurship project. The students were dressed to impress, meticulously prepared their presentation boards, and wowed the judges. Five outstanding high school culinary arts students competed at the Sunshine Kitchen Cookoff in Fort Pierce. Each high school student was paired with an Indian River State Culinary Institute student to form a team for the event. Each team made Mac N Cheese and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches adding their own spices, flavors, accompaniments, and flair to the recipes. Preapprenticeship Opportunities at TCHS – Engineering/Manufacturing

Mr. Phil DePuy’s students from Treasure Coast High School (Engineering and Manufacturing programs) were afforded an opportunity to participate in a presentation hosted by Colleen Gill (Apprenticeship Navigator) from CareerSource Research Coast.  Students learned about apprenticeship opportunities available to them after high school along with education and career options for those wanting to pursue a career in the industrial manufacturing industry.  Mr. DePuy offers the pre-apprenticeship program for students enrolled in his program at TCHS.  Ms. Colleen Gill is also an Engineering/Manufacturing Advisory Board Member.

Sunshine Kitchen Cook-off

St. Lucie Public School Culinary Programs competed at the Sunshine Kitchen in Fort Pierce.  Five outstanding high school culinary students along with an Indian River State Culinary Institute student formed teams and competed at the Sunshine Kitchen Cook-off. Justice Jam! Indian River State College and Criminal Justice Students

St. Lucie Public Schools’ Manufacturing and Engineering Program Advisory Board hosted a hybrid Career Day at Treasure Coast High School.  Colleen Gill from CareerSource Research Coast as well as Bill Wilcox and Brooks Price from Phoenix Metals spoke to students in person while Eric Linero from Jenoptik spoke to the students virtually via Microsoft Teams. Industrial Biotechnology Program Virtual Field Trip

SLPS middle school students attended a virtual field trip to Treasure Coast High School to visit the Industrial Biotechnology program.  This event was hosted by Mr. John Williams (Industrial Biotechnology educator) and his Biotechnology students, along with the district’s Career and Technical Education department.  Students touring this program were able to watch live lab demonstrations and learn about the Industrial Biotechnology career pathway.

Keiser University, Career & Technical Education Department Hosts Criminal Justice Luncheon

St. Lucie Public Schools Criminal Justice senior completers were afforded the opportunity to be recognized by President Leslie Kristof of Keiser University, Judge Shaniek Mills-Maynard, Port St. Lucie Police Department’s Assistant Chief Richard DelToro, Fort Pierce Police Department Deputy Chief Kenny Norris, St. Lucie Public School’s Board Members (Dr. Mills, Mrs. Hawley, and Mr. Kelly), Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jon Prince, and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Helen Wild.
