Culinary Students Win at the Sunshine Kitchen Cookoff

Five outstanding high school culinary arts students competed at the Sunshine Kitchen Cookoff in Fort Pierce. Each high school student was paired with an Indian River State Culinary Institute student to form a team for the event. Each team started with sirloin beef donated by Adams Ranch, potatoes, and vegetables, and created their own recipe for the judges. CTE Student Entrepreneurship Showcase

Career and Technical Education (CTE) students from middle and high schools across St. Lucie Public Schools participated in the CTE Student Showcase. The Showcase was all about entrepreneurship, the entrepreneurial mindset, and the resilience needed to be an entrepreneur.  The CTE classroom is a perfect place for teaching these skills since CTE teachers already cover many lessons and projects in entrepreneurship. Culinary Arts High School students from across St. Lucie Public Schools competed at Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association Education Foundation (FRLAEF) ProStart competitions in Orlando, Florida, and came out winners! Their accomplishments deserve celebration! CTE High School Nursing Assistant Students Participate in Skills Lab and Tour at IRSC School of Nursing

St. Lucie Public School Culinary Programs competed at the Sunshine Kitchen in Fort Pierce.  Five outstanding high school culinary students along with an Indian River State Culinary Institute student formed teams and competed at the Sunshine Kitchen Cook-off. Fort Pierce Central’s Allied Health HOSA Chapter Visits Assisted Living Facility for Valentine’s Day Celebration, CTE Month

Fort Pierce Central’s Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) chapter celebrated Career & Technical Education (CTE) month and shared joy and smiles on Valentine’s day.  HOSA members along with their chapter advisor, Mrs. Lorraine Young, did a presentation and gave each resident flowers and gifts.  Thank you to our business partner, Lake Forest Park Assisted Living Facility, for their collaboration to make this event happen. Central’s Culinary Students Tour IRSC Hospitality and Tourism

Indian River State College Culinary Institute and Hospitality and Tourism Program hosted an educational tour for FPC’s Culinary students.  During the visit, the students were able to participate in the youtube simulcast of the No Vacancy Live podcast with Glenn Haussman and Anthony Melchiorri; and the guest was Greg Juceam, the President and CEO of Extended Stay America. It was an interesting day where students continued to build rapport with IRSC Professors, toured the IRSC Culinary Institute, met current IRSC students and FPC alumni, were served a delicious lunch, and were exposed to exciting aspects of the Hospitality industry. Fort Pierce Central High School HOSA Students’ Holiday Community Service Event

The Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) chapter from Fort Pierce Central High School came together to share holiday joy at Lake Forest Assisted Living facility. Students delivered holiday cheer with gifts for the residents and holiday songs. HOSA is a student-led organization for high school students enrolled in a Health Science program and interested in pursuing a career as a health professional.

Fort Pierce Central’s Allied Health students participated in a Career Day with Legacy Private Care of the Treasure Coast (Mark Hassett and Rosanna Bennett) and Dr. Perry Lloyd medical office (Leydy Juaruz). Students gained knowledge of industry demand and opportunities in St. Lucie County and on the Treasure Coast.  Appreciation goes to Ms. Charles, Mrs. Young, and Mrs. Beaumier for welcoming the business partners to connect with their students.    

Keiser University, Career & Technical Education Department Hosts Criminal Justice Luncheon

St. Lucie Public Schools Criminal Justice senior completers were afforded the opportunity to be recognized by President Leslie Kristof of Keiser University, Judge Shaniek Mills-Maynard, Port St. Lucie Police Department’s Assistant Chief Richard DelToro, Fort Pierce Police Department Deputy Chief Kenny Norris, St. Lucie Public School’s Board Members (Dr. Mills, Mrs. Hawley, and Mr. Kelly), Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jon Prince, and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Helen Wild. Fort Pierce Central’s Health Science Classes Connect Virtually with Indian River State College

Ms. Barbara Charles, Health Science Educator at Fort Pierce Central High School, hosted a virtual session with Ms. Michelle Cuba from Indian River State College’s Health Science department.  This event included all Ms. Charles’ face-to-face and virtual classes.  Students learned about the various programs, prerequisites for admission, and watched ‘Live in the Lab’ to have a full experience of a field trip through a virtual setting.
