Recently Bayshore Elementary had a prankster take the school mascot, Jazzy Jaguar, from the tv studio. During the next week students gathered evidence and investigated to determine who was the guilty suspect. During CSI Night, students participated in experiments about fingerprint analysis, liquid analysis and code identification. Kelly Koenke, representing the orthodontic offices of Dr. Lee Leglar, recently surprised WestGate K8 fifth grade teacher Yanet Garcia with an Apple I-pad. Fifth grade WestGate students and teachers attended the Education Day events at the Mets Stadium on May 16th, and teachers put their names in a drawing for the IPad, and Ms. Garcia was the lucky winner of the raffle sponsered by Dr. Leglar. Ms. Koenke and Ms. Danny Ormstom also surprised Ms. Garcia’s students with pizza and soda. Third grade Allapattah Flats K8 student Sadie Garcia, daughter of Jennifer and Brian Garcia, won a raffle fundraiser prize for the St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce of being St. Lucie Schools’ Superintendent for the Day. On June 1, 2012, Sadie began the day accompanying Superintendent Michael Lannon to the business meeting of the Roundtable of St. Lucie County, where she participated in the regular business of the organization, approving the budget and seconding a motion to adjourn the meeting. Students in Northport K-8 Janine Ferro Weicks’ third grade RTI class accepted their teacher’s challenge and guidance and produced top of the line PowerPoint presentations recently. Students declared the main concept and provided plenty of rich supporting details when building their presentations. Students worked cooperatively, with Mrs. Weicks serving as coach and mentor through the process of completing slides. Students presented information about some of their favorite topics such as wrestling, soccer, music and the author, Rick Riordan. The third grade students at Allapattah Flats K-8 celebrated Mother’s Day by decorating their own heart shaped Mother’s Day cakes. The cakes, including the frosting and sprinkles, were provided by the school’s business partners at Publix Super Market. Students enjoyed decorating their own cakes and were even able to add their own special touch with a unique Mother’s Day card. Second grade students at Allapattah Flats K8 School are reading the Caldecott Award-winning novel “Charlotte’s Web.” While studying this great piece of literature, students will be completing circle maps on the characters, acting out the vocabulary words, and writing a synopsis of the chapters. Students are enchanted with the characters in the book and are eager to learn the outcome. Students at Allapattah Flats K8 School participated in the Spring “Golf In Our Schools” program through PGA. The five-week tournament wrapped up with a skills challenge at PGA. Alexis Allen, a fourth grade Allapattah Flats student, won first place in the putting skills challenge. Congratulations Alexis! 

Don’t tell these F.K. Sweet Elementary kindergartners that they aren’t at the beach. They probably wouldn’t believe you because so much fun was had by all at the school’s annual Water Day recently. Fom left, Kierstyn Zinter, Brayden Adams, Antianna Mills, Alexia Moxley, and Keilah Magloire are taking a break from the water to enjoy building sand castles on the playground.

Jaime Hillaire, a seventh grade student at Allapattah Flats K8, received state, regional, and national recognition from the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for his entry in the Junior American Citizens contest. That’s quite an accomplishment for which he should be proud. Allapattah sends out a big congratulations to Jaime!

Twelve students at F.K. Sweet Elementary recently participated in the annual Sunshine Bowl. Four teams competed by answering questions about the 2011-2012 Sunshine Books. The state finals, held May 24 in West Palm Beach, were the culmination of the nearly year-long effort by the class to identify and problem-solve a community public policy issue. The class Project Citizen project, “Vote to Make Fort Pierce Better: Voting Counts,” hopes to increase voter registration and voter participation in local, state, and national elections. The Windmill Point Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind team recently competed at the World finals event at Iowa State University. It was a creative extravaganza where more than 800 teams from all around the world shared their ideas and work. The Windmill Point teacm competed against 51 others from around the world, and placed ninth overall for Division 1, Problem #2- Weird Science. Alex Cardenal from Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition, along with his classmates, hugs one of the dogs from the Star Bright Therapy reading program. To the left of Alex is one of the volunteers from the program,  behind him is behavior technician Neil Siriani, and to his right is teacher Tammy Miller. Volunteers come with the dogs to Palm Pointe once a week for 45 minutes to read with the students. This helps students improve their reading skills. Northport K-8 students from the Northstar team were selected to present at this year’s Project Citizen Oral Hearings held recently at the Palm Beach Coounty Convention Center. Three of the five teams presenting were from St. Lucie County and two were from Miami-Dade County. The team from Northport K-8 School represented Mary Ellsworth’s sixth period class with their project, “Put Down the Fork and Pick Up the Pace.” The project centered around the issue of childhood obesity and how schools can help combat this increasing problem. With support from Northport administration, the PTO, Building Level Planning team, cafeteria staff and coaches, students were … Read More
