Lakewood Park Elementary dads participated in Dads Take Your Child to School Day. Fathers and male caregivers brought their child to school, signed a pledge of involvement, and truly demonstrated the value of their involvement in their child’s education. Student were thrilled to have their dads bring them to school, eat breakfast with them in the cafeteria, and walk them to class. Thank you to all who participated.
White City Elementary celebrates “Dad Take your Child to School Day” as we welcomed over 100 dads. Dads ate breakfast with their child, visited classrooms, and followed morning routines. Then Dads were able to meet in the Media Center to gather information on the White City Elementary sight words expectations, I-Ready, and sign their Dad’s Pledge.

A Committee of school and community leaders brought forth a proclamation at the September 8 School Board Meeting — Dads Bring Your Child to School Day. St. Lucie Public Schools, along with other school districts in Florida, will recognize this initiative on September 30, 2015. St. Lucie sees this as a movement rather than a moment to promote involvement of dads and male care givers in the lives of their students.
Gaines Academy had a wonderful turnout for their Dads Take Your Child to School Day. After a welcome from administration, the SGA Chorus sang and Student Council President Lopez Bourjolly spoke about the importance of making memories with your child. Manatee Academy boys gather for a great event where 13 Lads brought their Dads, uncles or Grandpas! Several boys gave Booktalks about a book they really liked. Two Dads gave Booktalks too. They then went on a website where they answered 10 questions to determine what kind of Superhero Reader they were. Each boy received a new copy of Treasure Island to share with their significant male adult as well as a “Guys Read” bookmark. Pizza was enjoyed by all! Kindergarten, First, and Second-grade girls at Oak Hammock K8 invited their dads to the Daddy/Daughter Dance that was held in the school’s cafeteria. They enjoyed pizza, cupcakes, and stencil painting while dancing the night away. Both daughters and dads had a memorable time. A big thank you goes out to the teachers and staff who facilitated this event. Also, thank you to JROTC from Treasure Coast High School for your support.
On Saturday, September 11th, the Port St. Lucie High School JROTC Jaguar Battalion participated in the “Do You Give A Ruck?” event. This honor guard’s purpose was to remember the victims of 9/11 and to ensure their voices are still heard. The PSLHS JROTC cadets assisted in the setup, marched a mile in remembrance, and helped the vendors tear down at the end. It was a great success for a worthy cause.
The Career & Technical Education Department attended and presented at the Florida Career Pathways Network Symposium. The presentation was focused on the Cybersecurity program at Lincoln Park Academy with Mr. Alan Mathison. Mr. Mathison presented details on the Cybersecurity grant and technological advances newly implemented at Lincoln Park Academy for middle to high school students enrolled in the program.
SLPS Custodial Staff were treated to a BBQ luncheon at Manatee K8 School to thank them for their dedication and commitment to providing safe and clean environments for all employees and students across the district. The luncheon has become an annual event and was sponsored by Donadio and Associates.

Curious George surprised St. Lucie Elementary’s VPK students with a special visit. Sherry Beland’s VPK class had the highest usage of the online curricula for the second quarter. Students in her class were ecstatic as Curious appeared from around the corner.
Special guest readers stopped by the Gaines Academy kindergarten classes on Friday, November 20th. Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Hat mesmerized the students as they read their story, Curious George by H.A. Rey. After the reading, Curious George led both students and teachers in an energetic game of ‘George Says.’ What an engaging, fun time for all! Thank you, Ms. Barenborg, for helping to arrange this event.
