Fort Pierce Westwood Academy Music Department Had a Phenomenal Showing

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy’s Music Department delivered a phenomenal performance at the District 13 Solo and Ensemble assessment. By the numbers, students earned a total of nineteen ratings, including sixteen Superior and three Excellent. Fourteen events qualified to advance to the State level, an outstanding accomplishment for the program. Superior ratings were earned across all areas: six Auxiliary, four Percussion, and four Winds. Fort Pierce Westwood Academy MOA Students Work to Save Marine Life

Fort Pierce Westwood’s MOA AICE Marine 1 students got an opportunity to learn about FAU Harbor Branch’s Marine Mammal Research and Conservation Program (MMRC). The mission of this program is to “Protect Wild Dolphins and Whales” through conservation, stranding response, research, collaboration, and education. Mr. Steve Burton, Director of Marine Mammal Stranding and Population Assessment at FAU’s Harbor Branch, along with his team, gave a hands-on demonstration to the students about the Marine Mammal Ambulance Transport System and rescue operations and answered all their questions. Students got to act as marine dolphins and worked in teams to learn rescue operations.

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy JROTC Cadets Read to SLE Students

Westwood JROTC cadets read to kindergarten and first grade students at St. Lucie Elementary for Literacy Week. This was extra special for one of our cadets who went to SLE for elementary school; he reconnected with several of his teachers and shared his success in school so far! Fort Pierce Westwood Academy Going to States for State STEM Fair

On February 16, 2024, 16 students from Fort Pierce Westwood Academy participated in the 36th Annual STEM Regional Fair hosted by IRSC. The students demonstrated exceptional skills in presenting their projects and justifying their research to the judges. At the subsequent STEM Fair Award Ceremony held on February 21, 2024, eleven participants were chosen for one or more awards. One of the students, Alexander Delamarter, a 9th-grade student, was selected to proceed to the State STEM Fair and represent the school. Here are the winners and the awards they received:

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy Educator Wins Grant for Sewing-Based Program

Mrs. Heather Blackmon-Gordon, a dedicated 3-D Art Instructor at Fort Pierce Westwood Academy, has been awarded the 2025 Innovative Grant by the St. Lucie Classroom Teacher Retirees. Her winning proposal, Stitching Success – Empowering Students Through Sewing, introduces a hands-on program that blends artistic creativity with academic rigor. Stitching Success will teach high school students both hand and machine sewing techniques while reinforcing key math concepts such as measurement, geometry, and spatial reasoning. Through reading patterns, calculating fabric dimensions, and aligning seams, students will gain practical experience in fractions, proportions, and precision. Fort Pierce Westwood Academy- Closing the Skills Gap in the Medical Field

Students from Fort Pierce Westwood Academy’s Allied Health and Health Unit Coordinator Program participated in their first clinical training for the year.  These students are pursuing an industry certification in either Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Health Unit Coordinator (CHUC).  This group is led by Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Montgomery and Ms. Danielle Garcia (CHUC).  

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy Celebrates Black History Month

During February, Westwood Academy’s tenth-grade World History students produced many original and creative works celebrating Black History Month. Students created collages, word art, essays, and in-class presentations of their favorite Black world figures, such as Olaudah Equiano, Nelson Mandela, and Bishop Desmond Tutu, and their favorite Black Americans, such as Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Stokely Carmichael, Kamala Harris, and Jesse Jackson. Fort Pierce Westwood Academy Cadets Attend Scholarship Fundraiser Ball

Representatives from the FPWA Army JROTC Program attended the Annual Treasure Coast Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Scholarship Fundraiser Ball at the Santa Lucia River Club. The ball is held as a fundraiser event to benefit Treasure Coast JROTC Programs by building a growth-focused scholarship fund that is awarded at the end of each school year. Our local MOAA chapter gives the proceeds of the event to 8 High School JROTC Programs in Martin and St Lucie county. The Annual Fort Pierce Showdown was proudly kicked off by enjoying the Pre-Huddle Breakfast, bringing together the football teams of Fort Pierce Central High School and Fort Pierce Westwood Academy for a morning of unity, inspiration, and celebration ahead of Showdown 47.
