Fort Pierce, FL – Sebastian Suarez, a senior at Lincoln Park Academy in Fort Pierce, earned the Congressional Award Gold Medal.  Established into law in 1979, the Congressional Award was created to honor, encourage, and inspire America’s youth.  To earn the Gold Medal, Suarez completed 400 hours of Voluntary Public Service, 200 hours of Personal Development, and 200 hours of Physical Fitness. Additionally, he planned a trip to and explored New York City over a five-day period to better understand the cultures that shaped the metropolitan area. Mariposa Elementary Fifth Graders Investigate

Students in Ms. Zoie Griffiths’ 5th grade class at Mariposa Elementary learn about controlled experiments. The students completed an investigation that tested how high a ball would bounce on four different surfaces. They learned about variables, the scientific process, and even included some math by finding the average height of the five trials. This will be the first of many experiments and investigations that the students will get to do in 5th grade.

On Sunday August 20, 2017, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion Commander cadet Lieutenant Colonel Travis Cetin supported William at his 13th birthday party at Superplay USA. William is on the autism spectrum, and he has experienced bullying. For his birthday, all William wanted was for his friends to show up to his party. Wounded Warrior Surf Day Color Guard

On August 12, 2017, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion Color Guard presented the colors to a group of 32 wounded veterans. The Jaguar color guard marched to welcome and honor the wounded veterans on the 6th Annual Wounded Warrior Surf Day Project, a day marked to enjoy surfing at the Fort Pierce Inlet State Park.

On Monday, August 21, 2017, there will be a partial solar eclipse viewable in St. Lucie County. The eclipse is slated to begin at approximately 1:30 pm and end at 4:20 pm, with the maximum coverage at 2:55 pm. The day of the eclipse is a great learning opportunity for students and adults, but many may be unaware of the dangers.
