Heroic Action!

Heroes come in all ages. On August 20th, Allison Goldsmith, a fourth grader at Fairlawn Elementary School, saved a fellow student who was choking during lunch. Deputy Rue, the school’s resource officer, witnessed the quick and positive action of Allison as she attended to her friend by patting her on the back until the food dislodged. The officer celebrated Allison’s ability to come to the aid of a fellow student.  She set a great example for being a good citizen/leader/friend. Click here to hear Allison share her thoughts:      

Mr. Brown Goes The Extra Mile

October’s School Board Meeting provided an opportunity to spotlight the services of Mr. Brown, a dedicated member of the Transportation Team, who goes the extra mile for his students and our schools.  Mr. Brown was recommended for a STAR Award based upon his outstanding service to provide assistance and support for the safe transit of students to and from schools. Thank you, Mr. Brown, for being that ray of light for so many in our District!    

Routten Recognized by Board

Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos announced that Chester A. Moore Elementary teacher Nardi Routten is one of five leaders from around the country who has been appointed to the National Assessment Governing Board.  Ms. Routten will serve a four-year term during which she will help set policy and assist in the identification of subject area content for the National Assessment of Educational Progress, also known as the Nation’s Report Card. The School Board and Superintendent recognized Mrs. Routten for her teaching excellence and for her prestigious appointment. Congratulations, Mrs. Routten!

Purple and Gold Partnership

Fort Pierce Central Culinary students and Health Science HOSA students partnered for a successful HOSA Fundraiser. Chef Jesse Strell and Mrs. Samantha Jackson combined forces to host a Spaghetti Fund Raiser where and HOSA students sold 115 dinners, and Central’s Culinary students prepared the meals. Go Cobras!

The Giving Concert Benefits Students in St. Lucie County

The seventh annual Giving Concert is planned for Thursday, October 25th at Lincoln Park Academy Auditorium located at 1806 Avenue I in Fort Pierce. The doors will open to the public at 6:30 p.m. and the concert boasting area choral groups will begin at 7:00 p.m.   The event, sponsored by St. Lucie Public Schools and organized by Choral Director Dr. Rolanda Jones, will benefit Grace Packs which is a weekly weekend back pack program that provides necessary food items to students in need.   Admission to the concert is a non-perishable food item (Chef Boyardee products are suggested) donation. … Read More

Sunrise Theatre’s Nutcracker Ballet and Irish Dance

For the 12th year the Sunrise Theatre is committed to providing students in St. Lucie, Indian River, Okeechobee, and Martin Counties the opportunity to attend live theatrical performances. The School Time Performances offer current, challenging and artistically diverse programming performed by international, national and regional artists and theatrical companies. Weatherbee Media Center Students Shine!

Students at Weatherbee Elementary School are applying literacy and STEAM skills during weekly visits to the media center. Students create in the new Maker Space, read in the Library Living Room, practice fluency in the George Washington Readers’ Theater, and work on computer-based learning in addition to checking out their favorite books.  

Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion March 30th Annual Homecoming Parade

On October 11, 2018, the Port St. Lucie Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion participated in the 30th annual homecoming parade from Village Green Elementary School, down Lennard Road, and back to Port St. Lucie High School. Congressman Brian Mast and leading cadets took turns calling cadences as they showed their pride carrying each state’s flag. Leading our Battalion was PSLHS’s color guard commanded by Cadet 1st Sergeant Andre Hannon, accompanied by Cadet Major Dariel Parzych and Cadet 2nd Lieutenant Justin Locklar and Cadet 2nd Lieutenant Mic heal Bourguillon as guards.  

Palm Pointe Kindergarten Students Learn About Fire Safety

Palm Pointe Kindergarten students enjoyed an exciting learning opportunity this week when St. Lucie County Firefighters came to their school to teach them about fire safety. October is fire safety month, and to celebrate this initiative, students had an opportunity to interact with our local firefighter heroes.  Students learned what to do in the event of a fire, how to safely exit their home, how and when to call 911, and the importance of coming up with a family plan during a fire emergency.  They were able to explore the firetruck and tools used by the firemen. This year’s 34th Annual Business & Industry Awards, hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and MIDFLORIDA Credit Union, was an evening to celebrate businesses and organizations in St. Lucie County that positively contribute to the area’s economic well-being and quality of life.
