Dorothy Hall, a paraprofessional at C. A. Compensation Agreements Reached for All Employees

The School Board of St. Lucie County and all bargaining units have reached agreements regarding salary compensation for the 2018-2019 school year. Returning CTA employees will receive an $850 retention supplement.  Their retro portion of this $850 (representing 7/1/18 through current) will be distributed by 12/19/18 and should equal approximately half of the negotiated supplement amount.  The remaining negotiated supplement balance will be paid in equal installments over the remaining paychecks for 2018-2019. All CU employees will receive a $250 bonus by 12/19/18.  In addition, returning employees will receive a supplement in the amount equivalent to their step within the … Read More

Northport Young Chefs Savor Opportunity!

Northport culinary students were guests at the Daytona State College culinary competition. The 8th grade culinary students were spectators rooting for St. Lucie West Centennial High School and Fort Pierce Central High School in the culinary competition, waiter relay and edible arrangements competition. This was a great experience for our young chefs.  

Holidays Around the World

Bayshore Elementary School’s kindergarten team received a very special visit from Mrs. Mullan who teaches VPK at the school.  Mrs. Mullan participated in kindergarten’s celebration of Holidays Around the World. She shared the special story of Diwali, brought interesting artifacts, and wore a beautiful cultural dress. Diwali is the five-day festival of lights celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. The festival, which coincides with the Hindu New Year, celebrates new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. Northport Takes Flight!

Taking flight! 8th grade students in Mr. Fess’ Northstars STEM class have been working hard designing their own airplanes online and constructing them out of balsa wood. Students competed against one another both in an on-line simulator and in real life!        

Lincoln Park Academy Junior Wins Gold Medal

Congratulations to Lincoln Park Academy’s Jonathan Geraghty. Jonathan won his second gold medal at this year’s FHSAA State Dive meet November 17th.  This was the first time since 1955-56 that a Treasure Coast diver has won back-to-back gold medals.

Licensed Teen Drivers Can Take “Teen Driver Challenge” To Improve Their Skills

St. Lucie County licensed teen drivers can improve their defensive driving skills  by taking the “Teen Driver Challenge” on January 24 and 26, according to Sheriff Ken  J. Mascara. “The number one killer of American teenagers is car crashes,” said Sheriff Mascara. “That is why the Sheriffs of Florida developed the Teen Driver Challenge Program.” The course will take place Thursday, January 24 with a classroom session 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, located at 4700 West Midway Rd. Forest Grove Middle School is excited to share that the Forest Grove SUPERIOR Chorus BROUGHT IT for a third time at the Holiday Music Festival in Universal Studios on Friday! They won 1st Place for Middle School Choir then took top honors as GRAND CHAMPION for Middle School Vocal Performance overall! What a great day! Students Build Volcanoes!

Larry Kaskey and his 7th grade Northstar students at Northport are having fun and learning about how to build a working volcano. Great hands-on lessons! The students are loving the lessons and being outside on this glorious day!  

Southport Middle School Students Save the Chimps Service Project

Southport Middle School students have been working on a number of service projects this year. For their service project, the Hawks team chose to raise funds and collect donations to benefit Save the Chimps, the world’s largest privately funded chimpanzee sanctuary located in Fort Pierce. As part of the service learning project, the students have been collecting blankets, food, toys, etc. to donate to the sanctuary.
