News Anchor Visits F K Sweet Kindergarten

WPEC News Channel 12 Anchor Suzanne Boyd visited Mrs. Melanie Francisco’s kindergarten class at Frances K. Sweet Magnet School. The students made a tree map and asked great questions about Suzanne Boyd’s job.  She read them a book, How Santa Got His Job, and then they drew pictures and discussed what they would like to be when they grow up.

Newest members of the Book Buddies and Beyond Club greet guests

Southport Middle School’s “Book Buddies and Beyond” club members recently greeted residents from The Palms Retirement Community of St. Lucie West. The students performed a Reader’s Theater version of “Finding Neverland” for their guests.  Greeting guests, from left, are Chris Yates, Bryon Peralta, Myrria Roux, Rebecca Moore, and Tiara Perch.

New teachers welcomed to St. Lucie School District

Approximately 250 new teachers who will be in classrooms in St. Lucie County public schools on August 20 when students begin the 2012-2013 school year were welcomed with great celebration on Tuesday, August 7, by school board members, administrators, and a wide variety of community members, including local elected officials. A tunnel of well wishers ushered the teachers into the event, as pictured in the photo, to two days of orientation to district policies, procedures, to review curriculum, as well as network with new colleagues. New Teacher Symposium a Success!

St. Lucie Public Schools held its annual New Teacher Symposium last week.  The District welcomed 213 new teachers!  The symposium, which was held at Ft. Pierce Central High School, engaged new teachers in various small group sessions over the three day event.  A new schedule this year allowed for social distancing and increased the use of technology. FPC held its annual student involvement fair this fall. New and transfer students were welcomed at each lunch into the spacious Cobra Nation courtyard, greeted by over 20 student organizations, clubs, and unique interest groups. New Security Protocols

The safety of students and staff on campuses as well as at school-sponsored events such as high school football games remain a priority for St. Lucie Public Schools. The District’s school security team and the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office have announced measures to enhance security protocols at all local football events for the coming season. New School Visitor System

In an effort to continually improve the safety and security of your children, St. Lucie Public Schools will be using a new visitor management system called Raptor beginning February 17th. All campus visitors, including parents and alumni, will need to have their driver’s license or military ID available. The Raptor system accesses a national database, preventing anyone who should not be on our campus from gaining access. New Marine graduate visits White City Elementary

Marine Private First Class Austin Boatright, the brother of a student in Lois Peith’s second grade class, visited  White City Elementary recently. Private Boatright just graduated from Parris Island and spoke to the students about the importance of being respectful and responsible. In order to graduate, Private Boatright was required to do many things including shine his belt buckle and boots, iron his clothes, and make the bed. Students were inspired by the commitment and dedication of this leader and role model.
