Palm Pointe students earn highest rating in music festival

Palm Pointe students discover pumpkin mysteries

Fourth grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition spent a recent afternoon unraveling math and science mysteries about pumpkins! Through hands-on activities, students and parents measured the weight, height, and volume of their pumpkin. They then created a bar graph comparing the data they collected. The students predicted how many seeds were in their pumpkins and also used estimation strategies on a large jar of candy corn. Palm Pointe students create Pumpkin People projects

Students in the third grade classrooms at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition have been learning about different reading skills. To heighten the students’ awareness of these skills and to incorporate a creative, hands-on activity, every year third graders create Pumpkin People projects. Students partner to read a storybook and organize their information into various maps to show cause and effect relationships, character development, vocabulary, and elements of a story. Palm Pointe Students Create Out of This World Art

Middle School Artists studied the use of mixed media to create a unique animal collage with watercolor, newspapers, oil pastels, and India ink. Their creative masterpieces are proudly displayed in the Palm Pointe front office.  

Palm Pointe students create cereal box projects

Third grade students in Laurie Boyer’s class at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition used a cereal box to create an informative project about a president of their choice.  Pictured is Athresha Kalluri, who chose President Barack Obama and included a report about the early, middle and late years of his life.  In addition, she posted words and pictures that described the president on the cereal box.     

Palm Pointe students contrast Native American cultures

Fifth grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition used a variety of resources to compare and contrast two Native American cultures from different regions of America. Palm Pointe Students Conducted Scientific Research Along the Indian River Lagoon

Palm Pointe’s Environmental Club participated in the “A Day in the Life of the Indian River Lagoon” program on October 4th along with approximately 1,800 students and teachers from over 30 schools, with the help of over 30 natural resource expert organizations, engaged in hands-on science exploration at over 32 sampling sites along the Indian River Lagoon. Palm Pointe students bite into healthy eating

The last full week of October, St. Lucie Public Schools celebrated Apple Crunch, where everyone was encouraged to bite into an apple at noon. This activity was part of Food Day 2013, which is a nationwide celebration and a movement for healthy, affordable, and sustainable food. Employees and students alike enjoyed the activities, and teachers planned lessons around it to educate about the nutritional value of apples. Palm Pointe Students Attend State Beta Club Convention

National Beta is committed to recognizing high academic achievement, rewarding and nurturing worthy character, fostering leadership skills, and encouraging service to others. Last week students from Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition’s Beta Club were building on the school’s tradition of excellence by attending their first State Beta Convention in Orlando. Students went above and beyond by competing in eight different areas against other Florida Beta members. Palm Pointe Students Attend Saturday with a Scientist

These four fifth grade students from Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition were selected to  attend “Saturday with a Scientist” on Saturday, 10, 2015 at V.G.T.I. (Vaccine Gene Therapy Institute). Students were able to do several hands on science experiments. The students all learned valuable lessons and enjoyed the experiments that they did. Palm Pointe students and staff participate in cancer awareness event

First and second grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition are pictured as they participate in the Circle of Hope. This project was started five years ago by a local student – a cancer survivor when he was 10 years old.  Circle of Hope is a Cancer Awareness Campaign and students and staff stopped what they were doing at a specific time and had a moment of silence to honor those that had been affected by cancer.  Students and staff also donated $1.00 to wear purple with the proceeds going to Standup2cancer.

Palm Pointe student places second at oratorical contest

Eighth grade Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition student Drew Maciel won second place in the  middle school category for the Martin Luther King, Jr., oratorical contest which was recently held at Lincoln Park Academy. Drew, pictured, was allowed up to three minutes to capture the audience with his speech and he did. Congratulations Drew! 

Palm Pointe student lobbies in Tallahassee

Eighth grade student Sophie Phillips, at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition, just returned from Tallahassee, where she went to lobby legislative officials for Pulse Oximetry Screening for Critical Congenital Heart Defects.  She met with Senators Grimsley, Negron, and Ring, and Representatives Hudson and Harrell. She also met with the Governor’s Director of Deputy of Legislative Affairs, Danielle Scroggins. The session ends in the next few weeks and Senator Grimsley verbally approved to find funds in the budget to support the screening. Pictured is Sophie seated in Governor Rick Scott’s office.

Palm Pointe student advances to state science and engineering fair

Eighth grade Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition student Nicole Delano recently qualified for the State Science and Engineering Fair after her science project was one of five projects in middle school that was selected at the St. Lucie County Regional Science Fair.  Nicole won first place in the category of  zoology, and received an $8000.00 scholarship to Florida Atlantic University. Palm Pointe “Starbooks” Cafe Book Tasting

Palm Pointe 7th grade ELA students did a “Starbooks” Haunted Cafe Book Tasting on October 31st. Students rotated around to tables with different genres that they have already experienced in class. Students “tasted” or previewed the books by rating the front and back covers, reading the first couple of pages, and giving it an overall rating. Additionally, students got to indulge in some tasty hot chocolate!

Palm Pointe staff joins students in nutrition campaign

Fuel Up to Play 60 is off to a great start at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition. The school had more than 100 students participate in the “Got Milk” promotion where students made a mustache drinking milk. The Fuel Up to Play 60 program is created to encourage students to think, eat and play healthy and exercise at least 60 minutes per day to ensure they are developing a healthy body. Pictured is the school cafeteria staff with their milk mustaches.

Palm Pointe second graders work on story structure skills
